Uhm, check the crime  reports near this home, ..whoa.

yes, because model trains are so much easier to fence than jewelry, cameras and electronic toys.

*sigh*

Not sure why it matters what's actually in your home? High crime area = high crime area no matter whether the contents of your home are easier or harder for thieves to sell.  You still have at the very least a personal property or worst family safety issue if your residence is broken into.

The listing does seem to contradict itself slightly, it says "Lowest" (green color) for crime then has the harrowing listings about shootings and other.  (looking at the map and zooming out, I was able to find the many incidents of GTA, and probably a few of the burglaries in the list, but not the shootings in the list - so maybe those were farther away, like Reno proper).

I have no handle whatsoever on the Reno, NV (or suburbs) real-estate market, but I'd consider that a high price for a home if there truly is a significant crime problem in the area.  Looks like the whole neighborhood is in that range (+/- ~ $100k) if you believe the map at the bottom of the page for other homes for sale in the area.

Expensive?  I would be selling my 1100 sqft townhouse in San Jose to pay for this and come out ahead.

Taxes?  They will reset at ~1.25% of the sales price. So for $540K taxes will be @ ~6700/year.  But there are no income taxes and the sales taxes are 2.5% less than San Jose.

Crime?  My townhouse has been broken into 5 times in the past 10 years.  Once when I went out for a walk and they stole my car.  And California jails are so overcrowded there is no longer a pretense of jail, it's the same as a speeding ticket.  And that is not even a big reason why I'm moving to Nevada.

Carpet?  I'm having a difficult time finding a home that isn't covered with hard surface floors, I dislike hard surface floors, too slippery and too noisy.

Well, San Jose has the proverbial "Sunshine Tax" as well as being the center of the universe for all the tech companies, many traditional and now all the internet related companies too.  Hearing stories from people I know of rent of over $3k per month for a 2 bedroom apartment, yup, It's expensive to live there, as you well know.

For any non San Jose, Los Angeles, NYC, etc. suburbs of a major city, I maintain I would consider that a bit high for what the house is.  But like I said, I've not ever looked closely at Reno, NV.  Maybe it is a booming mini Silicon Valley in it's own right.  The no income tax aspect you mention also helps, that annual bill could obviously offset a higher home price.  Since you are considering moving there, I'm sure you know the benefits of the area.

Hopefully your move goes well.
