Hello!

I am now the proud owner of a classic K-Line F3 ABA set.  According to the box, it is supposed to have Cruise and TMCC, which is perfect, since my system is set up with an original TMCC controller and remote.  What I'd like to find is a programming manual.

This set has smoke units in all 3 cars, but they look all switch controlled. The second 'A' unit is motorized and appears to have sound as well, but will not work under conventional control unless the tethers are connected.

I have GRJ's K-Line programming guide - found that searching the archives here.  But it leaves some things unanswered.  Because of the hard wired tethers, does this mean that the three-car-unit acts as a *single* engine?  Or are the three cars each considered engines and you have to build a "train" by addressing each engine?  I'm afraid to do the "full reset" right now, so I'm curious if there is a way to interrogate the engine to see what the current settings are?

I am a complete novice when it comes to the K-Line side of the house, so please be kind

PS: Anybody got a good handle on how to make replacement bellows to hide the tether cable?

ANSWERS INLINE:

Because of the hard wired tethers, does this mean that the three-car-unit acts as a *single* engine? YES

Or are the three cars each considered engines and you have to build a "train" by addressing each engine?  NO, each engine would have to have a TMCC radio receiver and a program run switch per engine and then no need for a tether.

I'm afraid to do the "full reset" right now, so I'm curious if there is a way to interrogate the engine to see what the current settings are? TMCC is a one way communications protocol, the base sends commands to engine- no you are not able to be interrogating engines and figuring out settings.

PS: Anybody got a good handle on how to make replacement bellows to hide the tether cable? Find matching MTH or Lionel parts? Edit, search for "diaphragm" not bellows. Also, Trainz bought Brasseur Trains parts including the K-line parts. I did not see diaphragms when searching but maybe you get lucky.

See this post- a manual for A-B-A set of F3/F7. https://ogrforum.com/...3#158251951957884583

It repeats much of what  just answered.

#1 there is a master unit- the only one with a program/run switch.

#2 reprogramming is basic standard TMCC rules- feature code 8 for an engine or set with smoke.
