I recently purchase my DCS remote and TIU rev l operating system.

my question would be when i try to talk threw the remote mic to the addressed train  i have to talk very loud to make it work at all, is there a possibility that the mic could be defective? Also does anyone have the MTH part number for the Internal mic in the remote!

I took it back where i bought it but owner said was ok and i had used one of his and i did not have to talk VERY LOUD to make his work.

yes i know i got this one so close to my mouth i almost ate it and left fog on  the LCD display, but the one the train shop had worked fine, they must be some really cheap dynamic mikes

do you know how much they sell from MTH and possible the part number so i can order one. a mth part number for one!? thanks Barry

it should be warranty !

My DCS is also new and the mike doesn't work at all.  It cuts out the engine sound and has some audible (distortion/disturbance) issues.  Then my loco and controller has weird problems and I have to restart everything.  Certainly not the quality feature as demonstrated on the mth video.  With the poor mth service I guess I'm just stuck.  I guess my expectations on a $300 device was too high.

I used the same remote that  my hobby repair shop uses! he uses DCS on all his layouts and i personally used his remote and it worked OK at his open House. so i know the option will work i think the mic does not put out enough Milli volts so the circuit can barely receive the voice signal. I've done TV and radio VCR ,servo airplane controls repair all my life ,  I can fix any electronic device as long as i can get the parts needed .Probably the circuit design MTH uses is not effective enough to pick up the weak mic signal!

Yes it works much better, It's been a while and can't remember where I got it. Maybe from one of the grandkids. They loved it...  Some even play music through the engine. This works almost like a track signal test.. If it plays you have a good track signal.

I also noticed at my trains part dealer during his ope house i used his remote and talked threw his i believe it was a Eagle foot ball train, i could hear my voice clear out of the eagle tender speaker,

"All aboard train leaving on track number 2 aboard!" that's what i said and that's what i heard out of the speakers,i had everyone in the store turn there heads around to see and hear the announcement, I and everyone else thought it was COOL!

Getting good sound out of the Mic on the remote is very dependent on having an excellent DCS signal.

It is very possible that the differences you noticed in your friends remote versus your remote were actually a comparison of his wiring setup versus your wiring setup.

I'm not sure how far away your friend's layout is, but you could take your remote and engine to his track and test it on his layout using his TIU and his wiring. If things work much better, then you know that your remote is OK and that your problem is in your DCS signal. And on the opposite side, if it doesn't work, you know you have a deffective mic in your remote.

Hope you figure this out.

JG,

You are absolutely correct, when I had my larger DCS FasTrack layout up the guys would bring their engines and the sound would be fantastic on my layout,  they would go home and using different track and a different wiring set up, their sound was completely different, it took us a wile to figure out that the track and the wiring make a great deal of difference in the actual sound level, it's not just the Mic.
