Seems no rhyme or reason for the increase on Friday.

I read an article that Friday and Saturday nights have become popular for one-night party nights where people rent a room for one night and have a party there (and sometimes trash the place), so they don't have to clean up the mess.  I guess the hotels just figure it is easier to pass on their added expense to everyone rather than trying to recover damages from individuals.  When we were in St. Louis chasing the 4014, a party like this was going on across the hall from us in our hotel (and the hotel was in a nice area).  It was a kids party, and the parents spent their time in the bar downstairs.  When it got late (and the noise level did not go down after multiple requests from hotel staff), the police were called and one of the parents ended up getting tasered.  It was not pretty.

I have read all the post and been bugging Andy with questions. Who has been very helpful about our plan of being a member vendor this coming October 2023. 1st time.

One question I have is what about places to stay when you are pulling 12' X 6' closed in trailer?

We want to get there Tuesday 10-17-23 and not leave until Sunday 10-22-23.  A total of 5 nights. More fun and visits.

We have never tried to sell before this trip but have been to York several times before. Always stayed at Wyndham in the past.

It was just prior to all the renovations being started. Yea we kinda liked the pub.

You all have me really concerned with parking.

Any advice on this rather early post about trailer parking especially reference security will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much.

I've stayed at the Wyndham and LaQuinta (which is also a Wyndham property) numerous times.  Wyndham seems to be off the beaten path, and I've not noticed any sketchy activity there.  At LaQuinta, I've seen several trailers and business vehicles (not train related) parked along the south and west ends of the building.  It's along US30 and doesn't look particularly secure, but I've not observed any problems, and the fact that several business vehicles are willing to park there seems to be a good thing.  FWIW, LaQuinta has a security camera at the west end of the building.  I've also seen trailers parked behind the Best Western, which is directly north of LaQuinta.

While it would be an additional expense, I wonder if it would be worthwhile to park the trailer at the fairgrounds.  I don't know what kind of security they have, but a lot of vendors park their trailers there (safety in numbers, or at least improving the odds).

Have you called any of the hotels to ask the manager about trailer parking and security?  While they probably won't tell you everything, you might get a feel for each place.

Good luck finding a safe place - it will be great to have another vendor, and it would really suck if you have a bad experience.

When choosing hotels and traveling with a trailer, I always look at the property on Google Maps using the satellite images to see how the parking lots are configured and how much parking is available -- it has occasionally steered me away from places that were not trailer-friendly from a maneuvering POV.  This is also a good idea if you are looking at specific restaurants to visit.

Another tip -- check into the hotel as early as you can and then find out what side your room is facing.  When the trailer is with us, we always try to park it in view of our room.  And remember, hotel parking lots start filling up fast in the early evening.

Going to the bandit meets with a trailer is also fairly easy if you are not looking to park close to the doors, with the exception of the firehall bandit meet -- DO NOT try to go there with a trailer and get into their parking lot.  You will have to find street parking or park at the fairgrounds and walk.

As for security, we have had no trouble at hotels or the fairgrounds.  Just make sure you have good locks on the doors and a hitch lock, and we make it a habit of checking all locks and hitch connections after parking and again before moving.

The only troubles we have ever had taking trailers to and from York were two tire blow-outs at different times on the trailer, so make sure you have spares and adequate tools to change a trailer tire.

Mike, Mallard and Andy.

Thanks for the information. It gives me some place to start. I certainly appreciate it.

I certainly like the idea of parking at the fairgrounds and budding up with someone else with a trailer and chain them together. Use to do that with motorcycle trailers at events. lol  Funny, but we never lost anything over many years and many motels. That way it's handy right there.

It's a work in progress.

Anyone stay at the Comfort Inn at York.  Just looking around and it popped up

Started staying there 2 or 3 Yorks ago when the rates at the Four Points went way up (I guess they are trying to pay for their recent renovations all at once... ).  No complaints so far, but I am not the pickiest of hotel guests.  Our rooms have been clean and the beds comfortable, and although close to 83, I don't recall much noise from the highway.  That's the most I can say because I spend 95% of my time there asleep and the other 5% getting showered, and dressed or undressed.  We like staying close to Round the Clock Diner so we can breakfast there before heading off to the fairgrounds.
