Now that Atlas O aquired the MTH Premier Line GP40, unfortunately I doubt that Atlas O will invest in new tooling for the GP40-2. The only hope left is Lionel.
Current market prices have far exceeded most buyers. Items are still not being delivered in a timely manner.
Both issues need to be addressed by the suppliers.
The model railroad companies can purchase 3D printers that print in metals such as aluminum and stainless steel to print out the various component of the hoods, cabin, motors, gears, trucks.
The model railroad companies could produce most of the O scale GP40-2 components in the USA and Canada to match the real GP40-2s built and operated in the USA and Canada.
