How do I run a TMCC Operating Car Using the LEGACY Remote?

Just received the Lionel FIreCar with Training/Support Car (6-11988).

The instructions tell how to run it using TMCC or conventional.

I don't have the Cab-1 (TMCC) system. I have the LEGACY remote/base (6-14295).

I'm thinking to put it on the track; power up the track; and then change the engine ID to something other than ID # 1 and then ensure the engine is set to TMCC. Am I close?
