I recently unpacked my K-Line legacy caboose and found the truck dangling from the wires. I thought easy fix, just remove the cab and reinstall the screw I heard bouncing around inside. Removing the four screws that run through the frame into the body didn't loosen it at all. A friend suggested removing the screws holding the smoke unit switch in place. Others and myself thought that the switch was just held to the frame and nothing else; but I removed it anyway. Well he was right; but it didn't help. After loosening the screws holding the switch I was able to move the frame enough to find a solid floor!   Now the frame is held to the body by the truck that is still attached!

Now I am thinking that this is something like the Lionel MPC Blue Comet cars where you have to press on certain windows to release the roof. Everything here looks too delicate for that; in fact I popped a port hole window trying it.

Has anyone worked on one of these puzzles before?

Andy L. sent an e-mail asking if I ever found out how to open this caboose. I thought that I had posted the solution here; but perhaps I didn't. Thank you again to all that offered help.

My Tuesday Night Train group came up with the solution. There are 4 deep holes in the corners of the floor. There are screws in there that need to be removed. STOP!!!

Before you do that all the trim on the caboose ends has too be backed out of the roof. There are small male/female joints along the roof line. I don't remember how but my brake wheel stand snapped and had to be glued. The roof comes away with a plug arrangement to disconnect the lighting.

Hope that this helps someone else!
