I was wondering how hot of a temperature trains can stand before it starts to make the plastic warp? I have been buying trains and storing them in an attic above my garage. I planned to start on a layout in the fall. There is openings up there around the edge of the roof line for venting but when I go up the pull down stairs it seems like I'm walking into an oven. I have them stored in their original boxes in plastic totes. I was just wondering if anybody had some thoughts on this. Thanks

I just got done removing "stuff" from my ex's attic. All I got to say is I'm glad there were no trains up there. The plastic bags fell apart in my hands.
The insulation is to keep the heat or cold, from your house, the roof prevents,
the heat from escaping !
Everything is in the house, nothing up stairs, but boxes, of anything ,
all are mty.
I sleep better !
I don't know about inside but years ago I took some trains to a flea market and it turned bad. When I set up it was very early in the morning and I put some plastic freight cars out on the table. I never thought about then when the sun came out and as the day wore on guess what happened next. Yep, some of the cars warped in the sun. So, let that be a lesson to ya.

If you have an attic space that doesn't have forced air ventilation, I wouldn't put trains up there. My attic tops out in the hottest day at around 130, that shouldn't damage any plastics, but I've stuck my head into attics that were MUCH hotter. Note that I have three good sized roof mounted fans and vented soffits for free airflow.
