Thanks for all the responses and support.  Boxes are important to me.  Based on the input to this thread, boxes are important to the majority of train buyers.  Most of my purchases are for used items as I am glad to have someone else suffer the initial depreciation.  I wind up buying some things that I am not sure I will like but if they are at a good price, am willing to gamble that the item is something I will enjoy having.  By buying at a good price, if I like it, I enjoy it more knowing I got a good deal and if I wind up not liking it, I can usually sell it for close to my purchase price.  Last year I purchased a NH PA set at a really good price with the intention of making a little on its resale.  However, it has turned into one of my more favorite sets.  I have found the original boxes to be very important for the sale of  a late model train so I usually will not purchase an engine without the original box.

I will not divulge the name of the person selling these items as I agree with Rich that there are often 3 sides to a story and I am willing to accept that people sometimes make mistakes.  This person has sold other items on the forum and had satisfied customers.   The item I received is in nice condition otherwise and may well be worth what I paid for it to some buyers.  I would have preferred a Legacy engine and not having to order a new speaker and pay the shipping costs but sometimes that is the costs of buying used.

The box issue and the cavalier attitude expressed when I tried to get it corrected is what really upset me.

I really enjoy this forum and appreciate those who sponsor it and those who participate.

Happy railroading,

Don
