I didn't really know what York was until I was in my 30's. Attended my first one at the ripe old age of 37 and I never stopped. Just curious how old most people were when they first attended. Yeah, yeah I know this is kind of a York topic but everyone hangs out here so I thought it would be fun to know. BigRail

I'm probably an outlier statistic at 20 years old my first time last April. Once I complete my schooling and get into my career I will likely make the trip every year as well.
First one was Oct. 88, which made me 36 (and now makes me 60!).
I attended my first one Fall of 2002....that means I was 41. I haven't missed one since.

I was 43. I make one York per year
Does TBD count??
10 years ago, I was 37.
Like Scott, I havent missed one since either.
The Orange hall was called the Yellow hall then, and was under the Grandstands, dark and dingy.
I was 22 when I first attended York in the Spring of 1982.There were the Red,White,Yellow(Under the leaky grandstand),Black and Purple and Blue Halls. It was shock and awe!
The bandit meets (Billy Budd and Sheraton)were huge then!

But where else could you buy engines out of a Popcorn machine?

April 1983. 2 months short of 30.

Despite being a lifelong hobbyist, I didn't go until I was about 35.

I think it was the spring of 1992 as my first one and that put at a young age of 34 then and haven't missed one since. I'm 7 years away from Social Security!

Now, that is funny.
I first went to York in 1980. I have not missed one at this time.
April 1985 when I was 39. What a great time.
My first York was when I was 24 back in 1975 and I have not missed one yet. I was in the the Yellow Hall when it first opened and I was under the grandstand, and I mean under the grandstand. I can't tell you how many times my head hit the bottom of the grandstand.
My first York was Spring of 2008, which means I was 39 years and 11 months old, give or take a few days. I had only known about York since about 2005 (when I joined the Forum), and I wish I had joined TCA and started going sooner.

October 1982, when I was 25.
16 years ago, 45 years old
I was 42
My first show was in 1998, I was 7 years old.

17, and never regretted it - every other show seems like a kid's play by comparison to the red carpet premiere that is York~
24, this April's meet marks 16 years since my first one. I've been to every one in at least some capacity since.

Sixty-five or older - I will not attend this or the one later this year - so the earliest would be 2014. That would make me 65. But I really I doubt I ever will attend. I seem to find more than enough stuff to buy and build, and learn what I need to know, just attending local shows and hanging out on this forum.
After being introduced to TCA by a friend, I attended my first York meet in 1979 or 1980. I was 28 at the time but since the local NJ shows were booming, I didn't start attending York regularly until about 10-12 years ago when all but two of the local shows began to fade out. This year we have decided to cut back the York trip to only the Oct. fall event. Since the train overload here has reached critical mass (from 30+ years of collecting), one York event should allow sufficient opportunity to pick up the odd pieces and say hello to everyone. I find it strange that when I first started going to the shows most of the guys were in their 20's and 30's. Today many of the same people are still there but in their middle age and golden years. Times have changed but we are still having fun.
Fall 2012- 51years old
Too old!! I first attended in 1985, so I was Johnny-come-lately.
I was 20 years old. That was the Fall of 2010. Since then, I have only missed one meet, and that was the last one, because I was student teaching and my class was throwing me a party for my last day the day I usually go.
not officially scribed into my diary but estimate I was 42 when I attended my first York
18 in 1973 and only one Hall then and we ran for our tables!
I first went to York in 1980. I have not missed one at this time.
So you were 55 then huh? LOL! Looking forward to seeing you and Dotty in a couple of weeks.
I was 57 my first York in 2007.
45 in 98 thanks to the guys on the aol forum back when it was a great place to make friends and share information.
My first York was the spring of 1976, I was 26 years old, and I have only missed 1 York since. Made a lot of friends in all that time and still enjoy seeing them twice a year. Also bought a lot of trains. Still feel like a kid as each York gets closer.
