Nice but I like the CSX paint scheme best.
Did Lionel ever fix the smoke unit motor/fan problem? My Monongahela NS Hermitage is going back a second time!
Rich
OK...the UP beautiful engine. Mine came with that orange piping lying in the wrapping. Wish these packaging guys would be more gentle.
I used CA to glue it back...seems like it just stuck there when I reformed it to fit like it wanted to be there .
So should be good.
That orange stuff is MU cable.

Thank you. I was wondering so it's a good thing Lionel decided to package it separately bringing attention to it .
My CSX version on the break in run. A bit of a different horn from previous runs which makes it interesting. Great looking units.
@ rduniii Why would Lionel ever say "road specific details?" It is nice to know when you purchase a locomotive for a specific railroad at least the headlight would be in the right place. I can't help looking at the new Lionel ES44s and seeing a "road specific detailed" NS Heritage under the paint. Generic detailed is more like it.
Have you ever looked at the list of features; for anything in the Lionel catalog.
They list a bunch of silly carp to make the list long. If they were going to something substantiative like road specific details they would most certainly list that. The die cast $900+ units had road specific details, the cheaper plastic ones; no.

It looks like the plate in the nose where the headlight would be is removable? I wonder if you could order the replacement part for the older ES44's and put it in.
I love all those locos!! The CN units are my favourite but, alas I have only O-36 and O-48 curves on my layout. I'll have to stick with some of the smaller diesels.

This Ferromex intrigues me too. I remember when Lionel announced the new SD70ACe seven years ago, but then cancelled the Ferromex due to lack of interest.
Excellent! Congrats on getting one, I don't think they made many.
David
And I have been waiting for Ferromex ever since!!!! Lol. I got both road numbers.
Anybody else notice that Rich Melvin must have stuck around for the Crewtalk of these engines after the 765 recordings?
You know, it may be The Season, I am with Swafford, the Ferromex is a beautiful Diesel Locomotive...Wow!!!

I realize it's not an ES44AC, but have you checked out the Legacy Dash 9's from a couple of years back? The CN version looks great, and runs on a minimum of O31. I picked mine up from Hugh in Kanata.
Gary (Montreal)
Gary,
I did recently get the older TMCC version of the Dash 9, which does work on the smaller curves. I'm having problems with a broken motor ring (in another thread) so I will look into tracking down one of the Legacy versions if it doesn't work out. Thanks for the tip!

I've run them on 048 a bit...slowly.
Since the Polar Railroad SD80MAC is so elusive these days, I can see the Ferromex doing seasonal duty heading up a terrific Christmas train consisting of the red/green Polar RR rolling stock. Very tempting!

Love my Lionel UP 7361. Only wish it was all diecast.
Great looking units. However, for me, headlight in wrong position ... no sale. If I remember correctly, each new Evolution Lionel cataloged last year had the headlights in the wrong place. Which doesn't make any sense since Lionel's previous GEVO's had headlights in the nose. Is it that hard to get one little detail correct? I would have jumped for an Iowa Interstate engine if they hadn't done this.
Any pictures of the Iowa Interstate ES44AC's?
Regards,
Swafford
Anyone want to post some pics of the Iowa Interstate???
The Ferromex ES44AC seems to have the wrong trucks (Hi-Ad instead of the correct Radial) in addition to the headlights at the wrong location.
That is 2 easily visible mistakes for a model with a MSRP of $550. 3-rail hobbyists must love Lionel a lot to keep buying expensive models with wrong features.
These are just my opinion,
Thanks,
Naveen Rajan

I think a lot of us just love toy trains
I am not nearly so particular about minute details as I am about Performance with the workings of the engine. I love the Legacy System, and if that works like it's supposed to, I am a Happy Camper. Even if Our Engines were Exact Replica's of the Real Engine, there's the 3rd Middle Rail.... Remember, it's still a Toy...Happy Railroading...
I don't know if this applies but here is a pic of the PRR 8102 with lights above.
And one more,

And one more,
That's because both locomotives are Norfolk Southern locomotives in fancy dress.
CSX, Ferromex, Up, etc... are not Norfolk Southern locomotives.

Thanks RUSTY. Now I know.
my CN should be here Monday! I see them so often when in Canada, think it will be great to have one in the basement.

I see them every day in Central Illinois .

You are lucky Chuck!
Since I already have a BNSF die cast version I decided to pass these up,But seeing the pictures here I think I might change my mind, Now I will have to take a ride to my LHS (plug)Walker Hardware in Totowa NJ he has the CSX and the UP in stock and I know he can get the others, Now I Have to figure out which one I like better,The Ferromex is starting to grow on me, decision, decision.
Fred
Anyone have a video of the Ferromex ES44AC in action? Pictures of the Iowa Interstate ES44AC? Thanks.

MSRP is $550 but retail is $400. For me not a deal breaker.
Well i just got my UP today, it made it out of the box for about 10 minutes and right back in it went. Off to Lionel. The engine would not think about moving until speed 62. You can hear the motor turning and it sounds like its trying to turn 10,000 rpm. I think the gear on the motor was not seated to the truck gears. Oh well. The good thing is I was able to talk Lionel in to sending me a call tag so no shipping for me on this one.
JOKER34,
I had this happen to me on my KCS ES44AC. It was the motor screws weren't tightened down all the way. Also as JOJO stated, the little coupling on ends of the motors that turn the gears in the trucks sometimes they loosen up. Hopefully Lionel will have it back to you.

My CN arrived today. Ground lights, not listed in the catalog, and a pilot seperate from the the trucks.
very nice job on this one Lionel.
Only issue is a small metal casting that kind of looks like a tire stop with a small peg. Have not found where it goes yet. Nice builders plate, but
I can not read it.
I think I am going to like this as much as my trainmasters!

That really sucks ... I don't blame people for sending stuff back that doesn't work .. I just like fixing them .. I really wish they start lionel classes again ..
My new Lionel UP ES44AC has a much deeper bass sound under heavy labor than my NS Heritage ES44AC. It is more like the deep rumble sound in the die cast versions. I also like the new horn. I was going to buy two more of the Heritage units but changed my mind and ordered Ferromex and CSX ES44ACs.
