I use old paint lids on the back of my speakers.

The ones from old testors spray cans work the best thy fit tight.

It brings the sound out better and will not take up much room.

Be shore to seal the edeg with silicone that helps bring out the base sounds better.

Careful about using silicone, as the fumes will eat some speakers.  I used to work at Rockford Fosgate and this is a problem when building speaker enclosures.  If you use silicone, you must wait at least a few days to allow it to fully cure so that the out gas from the curing process will not eat the speaker membranes.  If they are an all paper speaker, then you should be okay, but if there is any foam in the speaker, the silicone will soften/eat it, reducing the life of the speaker.
