I am amazed that MTH has not made a Burlington Northern SD40-2. They have done several Union Pacific runs, Santa Fe and CSX. Yet the Burlington Northern was the largest railroad in the US to rooster the SD40-2. The BN fleet had 835 units roaming the country. Union Pacific was second with 686.

And yet MTH never made one with Proto 2 or 3? They made a Proto 1 model in 1999.

Lionel captured my order for the BN SD40-2 since they catalogued it in the most recent catalog.

Tell me about it!!!!! No BN SD40-2 in PS2 or 3??? This makes zero sense to me too. I've been waiting and writing with no success. I'm about ready to do what you did and order the Lionel. It just seemed that the color in the catalog was a little off so I'm hoping that is just a catalog coloring issue and not a production issue.

That would be my standard answer as well.  LONG overdue, and ideal for layouts large and small, even for a switching pike.  With PS3 technology, it certainly should be a viable possibility, with the potential of selling better than most of the other more specialized (by function or road) locomotives mentioned here.

I agree with several others:

  • 4-axle "Dash-7" GEs would offer a lot of possibilities
  • three-unit articulated NSC, Thrall, Trinity, or Gunderson 53' well cars and containers
  • Evans, NSC, Trinity, etc. modern 52' or 65' mill gondolas (not fishbelly)

I'd add to the new tooling list:

  • 34,000 gal LPG, Ammonia, Vinyl Chloride, etc. tank cars

Finally, like the BN SD40-2, the CR GP38 or GP38-2 has been skipped since the original PS1 version in 1997 v1.  CR rostered ~500 GP38 and GP38-2s, and MTH hasn't made a PS2 version.

Having read through this posting again, I know what the problem is....we all want something different, and the manufacurers are confused.  It is educational...I didn't

know the B&M had a self-propelled gas/diesel electric/RPO like Burlington and other western roads.  Those wide interests probably are going to leave us all shivering in the snow, like the little match girl, none of us getting our druthers.  I hope we are not

just the vocal minority, and what is offered is what the silent majority wants (like politics).  One thing else I want is just a better photograph...of a steam coach photo, that is high over your head, in the restored station on the museum grounds at Shelburne, VT.  I needed a ladder and much better lighting, or I'd have it.  Nobody is gonna make this, but I will build one.  You see a lot of photos of "inspection engines",

but this is a one car train, with boiler sticking out in front, unlike a Baldwin or Unit-

Stanley steam car.

Southern Pacific #3100 at the Orange Empire Railway Museum is currently active, it's the only U25B left in the US that's in fully operating condition.   It's certified for cross-exchange on all the US railroads and sees occasional work off the museum property.

Interesting thing about OERM's SP U-boat. According to "The Apprentice" the MTH sounds match that unit exactly, right to the horn. He somehow managed to get a cab ride. He said it runs great. Didn't know it went off-property, but I shouldn't be surprised as the Filmore and Western Railway Museum does revenue freight service on the what's left of the SP/UP Santa Paula branch.

GREAT SCOTT! Why didn't I think of that?!

“A Wabash PS1 Box Car (This blows my mind!?!...Am I alone”

No, not alone.

We do need a WAB brown FLAG herald car in O one day.

Atlas made an uncommon blue one. Unfortunately those AAR cars are too heavy for 3r, very pricey for using old and worn Intermountain production molds.

Lionel did market (one) rare” O” scale brown PS-1 WAB HEART herald but no one else.

You would think WAB, SOO, PC, SCL, CPR, VTR, CV would be standard roads all through the years.

O should follow everything that has been made in HO.

SOUTHERN Railway Exterior-Braced 50' Box Car

550555 built by Pullman-Standard in 1970

Using the body of the Modern 50' Box Car and the Door for the 50' Waffle Box Car, MTH can properly recreate the Southern "Wave" box car painted to commemorate the 200,000 car built by Pullman-Standard.

There are builder's photos of this car in various railroad books.

They can also make the Southern box cars in the regular scheme, provided they use the door from the waffle box car that is closer the actual box car doors.

I can't believe that MTH hasn't made...

Trailers on Spine Car Sets

They've made 2 different mixed (trailers and containers) 5 Car Sets quite a few years ago, several Trailers on Flat Cars and, most recently, several Containers on Spine Car Sets.  But no Trailers on Spine Car Sets.

We haven't seen Trailers on Spine Car Sets since K-Line (hard to find) and Lionel (not to scale).

MTH already has the tooling...These would be a HUGE seller!!!

They can produce the TTX TTAX All-Purpose Spine Cars as 3-Unit Cars and 5-Unit Cars for just Trailers.

They have to be named on the package this time.

TTAX 3-Unit Spine Car with Trailers

TTAX 5-Unit Spine Car with Trailers

Another intermodal item somebody forgot to make are the Chassis for Containers.
