Anybody remember these? The realistic ones Williams made about the same time the MTH ones were coming out. I rolled the dice and got one on eBay for about $120. Everything worked but I quickly realized the front pickup roller wasn't providing power. I took apart the front truck (where the motor is) and found a broken lead at the pickup. I repaired it (solder and shrink sleeve) and then tried to reassemble the truck and motor block. It was a nightmare trying to get it back together. I eventually did it. On the track it ran but made a weird buzzing noise. Then smoke from one of the boards. Then quit altogether. The disassembled carcass is sitting on my desk mocking me. Now what? Can I salvage this thing or does it go in the junk drawer? Or to someone on the forum who needs it for parts.

Thanks and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Get a new one

Exactly what I'm going to do. Got a great offer from Dave (prrhorseshoecurve) and am going to get one from him. Also, with apologies to Trainmstr I'm going to keep the dead one as spares for the new one. As consolation I can send you the guts of an Alco I got on Amazon with the engine sounds. I pulled all that out and put in an old PS2 set because the motors that came with the Alco had a high pitch whine. I can't stand trains making noise that they are not supposed to. Thanks for all the great replies. I had forgotten how much fun that is on the forum.
