Humor associated with detailed interiors. A favorite is bathrooms showing people "caught in the act" (on the "john" and in the shower). Teens "making out" in the living room under a religious painting, a old woman knitting under a picture of Elvis, etc.

These buildings are close to the layout edge, so everything is easy to see. My older grandkids love looking in the windows FAR more than looking at trains.

I don't know if this is quirky or not.  I love trucks nearly as much as trains.

I have scratch-built 18 wheelers I made for my Superstreets/EZStreets roads

And I have "fiddled with' a number of otherwise stock SS vehicles to make construction equipment, fire trucks, etc.  I run the 18-wheelers and construction vehicles as often as the trains.

Lee, I think that you have the ultimate in quirkiness with your amazing U.P. U-boat.

Here's a few good examples of thing's that exude some quirkiness, I'm referring to the operating smoke pots(units) in my EP-3 and P5a electric locomotives. When switched on(the smoke units) they don't continuously puff out a steady stream of smoke, like steam locomotives do; instead, they abruptly erupt... with a cool looking plume of smoke being belched out... into the air; then, nothing for awhile until, unannounced, poof... off it goes, again.

Cool!

That simulates the safety valve steam release from the steam generator boiler.  Not supposed to be a steady stream.

I wasn't shooting your comment down either.  My Lionel JLC GG1 has the same feature and I love it.

As for quirky engines I own, don't see these around too often.

The K-Line Porter locomotives are fun too
