A German butcher shop with a flashing " Metzger" sign. Metzger means butcher in German and my last name is Metzger.
Okay, that's a start, Jeff.
A few minutes ago, I was showing my wife(online) some old steam shovels; including, an actual iron bucket in action; one even had a steam whistle. I LOVE STEAM SHOVELS... caveman style iron in action. Tres cool!

Humor associated with detailed interiors. A favorite is bathrooms showing people "caught in the act" (on the "john" and in the shower). Teens "making out" in the living room under a religious painting, a old woman knitting under a picture of Elvis, etc.
These buildings are close to the layout edge, so everything is easy to see. My older grandkids love looking in the windows FAR more than looking at trains.
Ron Wealey in a blue Anglia Ford stuck in a willow tree!
ETS tinplate.
Odd, possibly convoluted, but in a good way... Not kinky, there's a difference.
Not last years grandstand Thongstock, group picture. Definitely not that!
Rick
I have Snoopy sitting around with Woodstock and some of his buddies roasting marshmallows. I have red flashing LED's that light up my fire. That and Gabe the lamp lighter are my "lighter" side of life on my layout. MilwRdPaul
Definitely quirky, Ace.
Looks like there's a flat car used as the frame; don't have a clue about the rest of the unit?
Rick
Looks like a Super-0 switch machine.
Steve,
Nice unit, a real crowd pleaser.

Correct! A #112 Super-O switch machine housing on a 9019 flatcar with a prewar-replica cowcatcher.
Steve, that motorized unit is a riot!
Does it come with dive horn noises?
Love the Hot Dog - would look great switching a meat packing plant!
I don't know if this is quirky or not. I love trucks nearly as much as trains.
I have scratch-built 18 wheelers I made for my Superstreets/EZStreets roads
And I have "fiddled with' a number of otherwise stock SS vehicles to make construction equipment, fire trucks, etc. I run the 18-wheelers and construction vehicles as often as the trains.

Lee, I think that you have the ultimate in quirkiness with your amazing U.P. U-boat.
Ah, yes, I think you have a point: Union Pacific "U-Boat," a U-30C, meets Union Pacific U-Boat U30-C.
Lee,
I thought you had a Nazi thing going on; until, I realized that it was "super-streets"... not the other SS. (just kidding)
BTW, I've never seen super streets, in-person, just a few pictures of it, here. It appears to bear some resemblance to a race car set(slot car).
Rick
Your sub, quirky; especially, it's paint job. Nice!
Rick
My wife can testify that the only thing quirky is me
Nothing wrong with that, Art.

Here's a few good examples of thing's that exude some quirkiness, I'm referring to the operating smoke pots(units) in my EP-3 and P5a electric locomotives. When switched on(the smoke units) they don't continuously puff out a steady stream of smoke, like steam locomotives do; instead, they abruptly erupt... with a cool looking plume of smoke being belched out... into the air; then, nothing for awhile until, unannounced, poof... off it goes, again.
Cool!

That simulates the safety valve steam release from the steam generator boiler. Not supposed to be a steady stream.
Jake,
I've never seen a real steam boiler doing it's thing, so I couldn't make an credible comment, re: whether it's performing prototypicaly or not; but, to me, it's quirky and cool. Satisfying... to behold!
Rick
A lineside industry called "Schmiegel's Shur Sharp Sheep Shears". "For Sheep that are Regal, Shear with a Schmiegel!"
The homemade signage is really baaaaaad!"

I wasn't shooting your comment down either. My Lionel JLC GG1 has the same feature and I love it.
As for quirky engines I own, don't see these around too often.
The K-Line Porter locomotives are fun too
Jake,
I never thought you were... I was just restating my enjoyment...
BTW, Your little Porter is is a beaut.
Rick
Don,
Some kind of Steeple cab second cousin?
Rick
Hmmm, what do I have that is quirky? I think the top of the quirky list is my kitbashed Marx 1203 windup Triplex, made from two Marx 401's and a Marx plastic tender w/ a 401 clockwork motor:
James,
Quirky!

Marx Windup Triplex - very clever! You just need three hands to start it?!
Ha! Steve, I take that as great compliment since it comes from someone with an electric hotdog running around their layout...
Ace, it can be started with two hands, but it is nice to have a helper to wind it!
Something planned for my layout but not yet started - a sausage factory and matching custom reefer for 'Schlechtschmecker Sausage." Their slogan - "It's the Wurst!" Those of you who speak German will appreciate it. (Schlechtschmecker is a mangle of the German for "bad tasting.")
I have a pair of coupler-shaped oven mittens
I've got the prototypes...
