Today I tried running my Premier PRR T1 Duplex for the first time on my new layout. I was concerned about it clearing the two short bridges over my yard, so I took it really slow and observed a rear step under the cab barely clipping one corner of one bridge. I needed to look at all options, and my dairy was very close to the problem bridge, so I disconnected the wiring and moved the structure to the other side of the layout where I couldn't lose my balance and fall on it while I was working on the bridge.
Bridge problem solved...I replaced the original metal deck with a .080" styrene deck 1/2" wider. My T1 easily cleared, so I took it for a spin around the layout. As it happened, the wiring for the dairy was draped across the track, and the T1 ran over it. I held the engine momentarily and yanked the wiring out of the way. The power leads for the 8-channel Breyer's sign dragged across the rails, instantly blowing out the sign. What are the odds?
The good news is that I had bought a spare Breyer's sign because it looks so good atop the dairy. The bad news is that Miller Engineering hasn't made 8-channel signs for years, so my replacement sign doesn't spell out B-R-E-Y-E-R-S.
As if this weren't enough to deal with, just yesterday I took delivery of a brand-new harp from Scotland. Someone, probably in Customs, banged it around so before I even laid fingers on the strings, it was damaged. At least it isn't in a place that's easily seen. And as my harp teacher observed, now I won't have the angst of putting the first "ding" on it.
And as a follow-up to my prior post, it appears that the dealer I bought my Legacy PRR E8s from is going to do a warranty repair instead of outright replace the set, which was essentially dead out of the box. *sigh*
This hasn't been my best week, but I'm still very grateful for all I have.
