My first all new MTH loco since 2001!! A MTH PRR 2-10-4 with PS 3.0!

I had some extra funds come up....always wanted a J1a and found a deal on the DAP set with hoppers and caboose.

Just landed at my door.  And I kinda feel like I have all the locos I need. Not that I will NEVER buy another....but I have my favorite PRR locos and my other favs from other roads.....and have that 'all full' feeling. Weather that will last or not who knows....but this is the most I have ever spent on a loco or set.....and made a deal with myself if I did it.....it would be the big final loco!

Add to it all the lumber for my layout is scheduled to be delivered Tue, my lighting is in and I have pretty much everything need to start and get trains running.....so that will be my emphasis for a good while.   But boy is this a great 'last one'!!

Thanks for looking!!

They are both beautiful.  I don't have an S-1 and really want one - just a great looking loco.  The J-1 has always been one of my favorites.  And I believe you - no doubt it is the last one - until next time!

Sounds like with the lumber being delivered and all you're going to having a good time of it.  Nothing quite as much fun as building a layout.

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress after the lumber gets there!

Funny thing is about my Moto.......I was working under my son's house and fell on my phone....screen broke.......but everyone  knows I like my Razor sends me their old one.....many in mint like condition....so I'll be using one for a long time!

UPDATE.....Got my NEW J1a fully unpacked, checked over and put on my test bench. DOA!!!! I can not believe my luck with MTH locomotives!!! This is the most I have ever spent in O scale....and now my biggest  disappointment!  Dealer is closed today so I am not sure what he wants to do....but no matter what it means I have to pack, ship and wait.

It has strengthened one resolve......THIS IS THE LAST ONE!!! I unpacked and test for the first time a NOS vintage Williams, not WbB, SD-45 I picked up for $80. It was perfect, untouched but sitting in a box for years not sure what I'd find. On the test track, power up, runs like the J1a should have!! Smooth, a horn that is just OK but works EVER time! What's wrong with this picture??? $80 engine = Rolex......$1000 engine = broken Timex........not a happy camper.....

Small update......

Even though my dealer is closed today....he called me!! (they are members here) and he promised to get things corrected Monday morning. WOW!!

I don't hold the dealer at fault.....it's these electronics that are under engineered to take daily use......think if iphones failed this often after getting dropped 3 times a day.

Dave,

Have you checked/cycled the 3r-2r switch position a couple of times?  I've had a few MTH P/S 3 20-xxxxx-1 locos arrive in the "dash-2"position.  They seemed DOA as well until I moved the switch a couple of times to the 3rail position.  Then life appeared.

Hope this helps.  I sympathize with your frustration.

Best,

Bryan

THIS FORUM IS AMAZING!!!! I just tried that.....and it worked!!!! I had checked the position of the switch....but never touched it.  Flipped it back and forth......MOVEMENT!!!

You just saved me so much time and effort returning it!!! THANKS

Good catch on those two Pennsy monsters. You are not alone in feeling frustrated with a new engine. I ranted here a while back ,then found my own error. Tried a new B&P diesel....lots of issues....lots of help from the Forum, but no luck. So I pack her up and head up to Mercer Junction to see my pal/dealer Dave....AKA  King Mouse. Dave takes the cab off....waves his magic wooden stick/plug pusher....and Presto....the lights light....the bell clangs...the horn blasts.....and we are running. I feel like an idiot....again, but self medicate with the purchase of a new set of 4 bay B&P hoppers to keep my loco company. Ahhhh.....  nothing beats a bit of retail therapy.
