My wife and I have done the York camping trip about 4 times now.  We travel in our DIY (I'm the "yourself") Ram Promaster van.  Little by little it's becoming a small, agile, comfortable camper.

The one thing that I will note about York camping is that it gets pretty quiet at night... seems like everyone is in bed by 9!  And, Thursday morning, there's not a lot to do from 9am 'til noon.  So...

I decided to see if there was any interest in an operating layout during these quiet times.  A few weeks back, I built a folding portable layout (66" x 48") that stores in the "basement" of my van.  On Wednesday night, the weather was perfect for running trains.... 70 degrees, with a nice glow of moonlight combined with parking lot halogens.

Here's some pics of my newest layout...

I just set it up and started running trains... a number of campers in the area stopped by and we had lots of interesting discussions about trains.  Some had questions about "how did you...?", others joined in with ideas and the discussions were wide and varied.   many of the ladies met and discussed all that other stuff.  Seems like train people just like talking about trains... anywhere, anytime... and especially at York!

Looking forward to April York and another impromptu get together!  I hope everyone enjoyed this York as much as we did!

ps.  I ran it off the provided AC, but the DCS system gets along well with the 12VDC to 120VAC inverter in the van too.

Eddie likes taking the trains to the people or he just needs his trains when he travels. If you don't know, he has other portable layouts.

Thanks for the photos!

A few of the guys at the get-together said they thought the layout would be a big hit if we go to a campground.  Hadn't thought about that, but I have a feeling that it would be fun to take along on vacation.  It all stores below the floor and in a few "nooks and crannies", so the layout will be in the van most of the time.

Thanks to all for the kind words,

ed
