Any app made for the phone will work on the iPad.  it iwll just be small on the screen or doubled in size (not the best looking but it works).

Basically apps from the app store come in 3 flavors:

1. iPad only

2. Desgined for iPhone only (but they will still always work on an iPad just not take full advantage of the screen)

3. Designed for both iPhone and iPad and will take best advantage of whatever device they are installed on.  These apps are easy to spot because they have a + sign next to their price.

Couldn't help but notice the 'CAB VIEW' button mentioned at 744 where it says "Tapping the cab view closes the roster and returns you to layout operation". This doesn't 'make sense' as is. Cab VIEW would suggest the view FROM the cab.

Is this a hint of the camera in the cab someday soon?

Cab view as in "iCab" view with Cab controls.

Thanks.  Great video along with others in the Lionel Engineering library of videos on YouTube.  I have few questions:

1) What if you are using TPC's to control track voltage.  The 9-pin socket on the Legacy Command base is in that case already occupied and not available to the Wifi unit.

2) What if you are using SC-2 units to control switches and operate accessories?  Will you get to run them using the Wifi unit without having to install anything else?

3) What if more than one Wifi unit controlled layout is next to another, such as at train shows?  Can i-Phone and/or i-Pad operators of one layout see and connect to the wifi of the other?

Thanks.

Based on what we know about the LCS iPad App...

You would need a SER2 for the TPC to connect to via the PDI cabled network.

Nope.  The WiFi talks to the base which in turn talks to the SC-2s

Each LCS WiFi unit can be set to it's own channel.  This will allow 2 proximity layouts to operate independently.  The only way I know to keep folks off your network is to have the LCS WiFi connected to a router with a password.  I am doing this already.

Thanks.

While you can set an unique TMCC/Legacy engine ID, you would still need a CAB2 to enter any information such as name and road number unless you have a sensor track and a sensor equipped locomotive to get it into the DATA Base.

At least that is my understanding of it.

Can an engine be completely set up using this app or will you still need the Cab2? That is assigning a name and engine cab number to the database, whether it is TMCC, Legacy or R100, and RS/RS5/Legacy sounds.

Thanks Marty.  I appreciate your prompt and informative answers to my three earlier posted questions.  Just so I understand in terms of #2 - you're saying that the Wifi unit will allow me to run my SC-2 controlled switches from an i-Phone or i-Pad - correct?

Nope.  The WiFi talks to the base which in turn talks to the SC-2s
