Inside the Reefer
The four small screws for the door support must be removed, however, one of the screws is hidden under the fuel tank (screwdriver points) and I saw no way to remove the tank (probably glued on) so I drilled an access hole.
Two screws at each end by the trucks releases the body from the chassis.
The smoke fluid does travel down at a good angle to the smoke unit
The smoke unit. Lionel did use the good fiberglass wicking they sell on their web site
Lionel used a 27 OHM smoke resistor
A very interesting piece and well done except for difficulty accessing the one screw holding the door support on. Be careful as you gently pry out the door supports from between the body and chassis. They are in there tightly. Just use a screwdriver and move your way down gently prying.
Using a 27 OHM resistor will keep the heat down and reduce charring of the wicking. I use mine quite a bit and you can see just a small amount of brown on the wick.
