hey guys, just picked up a Proto 1 GS-4 and plan to convert it to proto 2.

This engine has fake number boards and wondered if anybody cut the retangles out and made them function?  and the GS-4 has markers on the side of the front and I don't think I can light those up without major difficulty!  With the MTH proto 2 version, what lights up? I can cut out the firebox for the light there and drill a hole for cab light.  Who installed fireman and engineer figures?  Did you use plastic boxes or some seat to position them in the cab?  I thought of detailing the cab with white guage faces to pop them out and some brass on the lines too.

I saw the instruction book for the Proto 2 install on the MTH website.  looks straight forward.  do you get the antistatic pad, or do I need to get one at Radio shack?

thanks Chris

I had that same engine, I converted it to TMCC.  I managed to drill the markers and use one of the small ceramic 2mm LED's to light them.  I drilled straight through from the side opening, worked out just fine.

For the MARS light, I suggest the ngineering MARS Light Simulator.  Check out their video, it's even better in person!  I've used this is a few conversions, most recently in my FEF for the red MARS light.  You can simply wire them to the headlight output (use a 100 ohm resistor and a 100uf filter cap to give them clean DC from the headlight output.  If the sound file you use has a MARS light, you can also wire them to the MARS output in a similar fashion.

ill be doing the regular tender setup.

I do want to do the mars light.  that would be really cool. john thanks about the setup there and being able to drill in the side markers.  George, ill tap the headlight wires for the sidemarkers and Mars.  as long as you have the proper resistors and such, will there be any issue with amp draw? or because its LED, no issue?

thanks to all

chris

john you have pics of that setup you did? I saw that website, you will need to purchase the lights also.  it seems that you need 3 led lights? and the mini board?

thanks Chris
