I can imagine how surprised the people on the sidewalk and people inside the shop were when this Peter Witt car left the rails in Brooklyn. On Wednesday July 8, 1931 this trolley jumped the track and crashed into a drug store on the corner of Nostrand and Putnam Avenues in Brooklyn, NY.
This scene would make an interesting diorama on a train layout with a street car line.

Maybe the motorman was in a hurry to pick up his prescriptions. 
In talking with my aunt who used to live in Reading PA, she said her girlfriend hit a streetcar with her car(when they were teenagers) and knocked one end of the streetcar off the track. So it seems that streetcars did not weigh all that much if a passenger car can knock them off the track.

Well, you can guess the motorman was neither on his cellphone nor meth when he tried this shortcut, not a sure thing today.
Is it not amazing that the trolley car missed the light pole by a hair.x
