AT&SF 2926 guys have been doing this for some time. Flues Superheater bundles, Pop valves, valve gear parts, staybolts, etc. http://nmslrhs.org/Shop/Steam2015/sponsorships.php
This is a great idea.
What's the term for it? Crowd-parting? Crew-flueing?
I like the chunky Alaska 2-8-0, but wow, that 1309 articulated is quite the project.
The Railroad Museum of Long Island is selling stay bolts to help fund the restoration of their ex-Long Island Railroad 4-6-0 #39.
When the 2926 bunch did the tubes/flues, they were asking for $250/tube, and $350/flue.
This has always been a good fund raising device. Most of the boiler tubes were replaced on the NKP 765 in 1978 at $42.50 each. "Join the Boiler Tube Club"!
