OK, I understand and I hope the following drawings will help you (sorry, they are in french and millimeters!); first, the 3D drawing: the sam as at the beginning of this thread, but "broken" (I don't know how to say!) with the main dimensions; the software don't allow me to make dotted lines to show yo where the pieces are connected; the second one is a 2D drawing showing the half of the well car; it's the final drawing after the re-sizing with the trucks and the choice of the different styrene strips; it's a whole drawing, the details are not yet done (little lines without notes). If you want more particular explanations, you can mail me, no problem!

Here is the beginning of the well car; I have cut the first pieces and glued some on the bottom part; but I have to re-order for some strips and I am stopped in my work!

Katy409 I'm not sure I understand your question.  Those are 1:48 2-rail NSC 53-ft wells using MTH 2-rail trucks.

I did make some "S" equivalents that I posted on the 1:64 forum of ogrforums.  Which scale are you interested in?

Art, I used 0.060" thick styrne for the 1:48 models and 1:64 0.040" styrene sheet for the body of the 1:64 models.  I used medium-thickness CA glue for all the joints

I really like this thread!  We used to have a fantastic, and long, thread about intermodal but I think it was one of the casualties during a clean-up process here on the forum.  It sure would be nice if folks would come back to this thread and re-build what we had!!

But I will need some more specific information about the end platform, because I don't manage to find a photo from above to see how all the parts are placed (brake cylinder, walkways, etc...) . Thanks in advance if somebody has what I want...

With what I had as styrene strips, I could make the floor of a 20' container; the parts are the same as the 40' exept length.

Now it's  urgent to re-order!!!

I began to glue some reinforcment pieces on the both sides of the well car and install in a temporary way the pipes along these sides:

Happy New Year all.  If my end platform is 2 3/64"  by  2 9/16" for O guage - how do I convert to S guage size?  

Multiply by 48 to obtain the real size and divide by 64 to obtain S scale.

Here is the last update for the well car; the sides are completed and glued onto the bottom piece; it looks like a stretcher! 

Tomorrow I will place other pieces which are ready!

Now the well car has found a friend!

Great progress!  I really respect that you built your own container for this, especially since you can get 1:48 containers from MTH and Atlas.  

Based on your pics so far, I'm guessing this is your prototype well car?

I had prefered to build my own containers. I find those from ATLAS and MTH too expensive because I live in France and I have to pay extra for shipping in my country; so, the whole price is above the one I have when I build with my hands. And the difference is significant! more, I enjoy to work with sheets and strips of styrene, so I'm happy!

The picture you put on the forum is exactly my prototype well car! it will have to look like it!!! the first one will be numbered 53029.

I found my model on "TRAINIAX" website; thanks to him!

Not yet finished; lack of some pieces I have in order in the USA (grab iron, stirrups, brake system...); 'have to wait for them! and I am far away from your country.....!!! a big pond between us!! 

First test of loading; all seems to be right! phew!
