It also looks like they are tooling up GLa hoppers. I hope they quit painting their PRR models chocolate brown though!

Norm,

The RB trucks may even be correct for Conrail.  I have seen a photo of a CR N5c with RB trucks.

Yes but,,,,,,,this is a $95 Cabin Car!!!!!   Even "discounted" it is still over $70!

So.  Beats a brass one and I can turnaround the 3-rail trucks for at least $10 and use the brass PSC ones I have on the shelf.

Lionel has the parts to get it right from the factory. The trucks used on this CNJ caboose are closer to those used by the Pennsy.

Lionel has made changes based on comments from the forum before. We just need to let them know that plain bearing trucks belong under the Pennsy N5b.

Hopefully we will not see these new models delivered with RB trucks on the steam and transition era pain schemes.

and I predict it will arrive before than the long awaited one from Kohs

That one would be far beyond my budget, too, even if it ever comes to fruition!

I was thinking of the ones from Custom Brass.  I've been waiting on an unpainted one of those...

There was a fellow at the Chicago O Scale March Meet that was selling the so called "Kohs rejected" PRR Cabin Cars for $500 each. I personally discussed the "special assigned to Railway Express" Passenger Service Cabin Car, which he had one with him, but I was short $200 on Saturday afternoon, and couldn't get to the bank.

I know who he is, and may still purchase that special PRR Cabin Car.

$500 is less than what Kohs cabeese normally fetch..   This is a slight discount to what Kohs is asking:

His finest model in my opinion is found here:

http://www.kohs.com/PRR%20G22b...ages/G22b%20Home.htm

The detail on the G22 series is beyond compare, the hatches open, the rivets are handpunched and exquisite; his GLE cement hopper is a close second.

This is great news for PRSL modelers.  Whether we await Lionel issuing a PRSL version or repaint one of the models currently in the catalog or use it as the basis for modifications or kitbashing, this gives PRSL followers an affordable model that looks right.

In comparing the diagrams to which MWB provided a link in a previous post, even though some of the outer dimensions vary, both the N5 and the N5B had 19'0" between truck centers (versus 20'0" for the N5A).  The wheel base of the N5B trucks was 5'3" as opposed to 5'0" for the N5 trucks but a 3" difference doesn't bother me and by the time they got rebuilt, maybe they got the longer trucks.  It looks like the difference in coupled length is 1'8": 31' 5½" for the N5 versus 33' 1½" for the N5B.  Some or most of this additional 10” at each end looks to be in the additional length needed to accommodate the collision posts.  The lengths of the enclosed part of the carbodies look very similar if not identical.

It appears that some of the PRSL cabin cars had the collision posts and some did not.  Photographs show PRSL 227 without collision posts but 236 and 240 with collision posts.  It is probably easier to remove and replace the collision posts and shorten the roof and floor than to go the other way.

Kudos to Lionel for making this N5B model.  It will fill a big gap in my PRSL cabin car roster.
