Wow, that is better than what I paid for it last year!  I guess they have saturated the market for Blue Comets and are blowing them out.  This is by far my most favorite locomotive for looks, sound, etc  on my layout.  In fact, it has convinced me to expand my layout and give her and the rest of my small fleet some additional trackage and wider curves.

I you want one, this is an awesome deal.

That's reasonable shipping.  When I sent mine back for the "whistle upgrade" (fix) for the 832 of last year, it was about $40.00 in shipping.  You still got a great deal!

Just once I'd like to see something I bought on their website six months later for more than I paid for it.  Not gonna happen, of course.

Just the way it goes.

If these ever get down to $600-$700 NIB I might consider buying a second one, to repaint flat black and weather as I did my Southern Crescent - that worked out so well: one of my very favorites now.  But with just the one BC now, and so beautiful and detailed paint, I could not bring myself to do that to it.

Great price for a Legacy steamer WITH whistle-steam.  833 also has the correct Blue Comet whistle straight from the factory, so no need to ship the loco in for the whistle-fix that 832 needed.

Times are definitely tough, and there's LOTS of inventory out there.  It's quite possible that Lionel offered some of this inventory to the big dealers, but the dealers either turned them down or didn't take all of Lionel's warehouse inventory.  I know Charlie Ro has some great prices on a couple of Shays... but now mostly those he has on super-sale are conventional-control.  Lionel has ALL their Legacy versions on sale -- even lower prices than the one's Charlie didn't have on sale.

Crazy... I'll admit.  But the national dealers are big boys, and they know how the game is played.
