Just curious as I got an email about Mon-Wed at the fairgrounds.  Do you think many people will be moved there instead?  I guess they are just trying to get some revenue off of what went to other hotels?  Kind of odd in my opinion.  How much more confusing can we make it for the general public haha?

I honestly liked the hotel shows, just a different experience all together.

Personally, I think that the TCA is just trying to take advantage of the fact that they rent the fairgrounds for pretty much the whole week, so why not try to get some revenue coming in for the non-meet days?  And maybe even entice some people to join TCA and stick around for the meet (not all hotel vendors are in TCA).

The impact on the hotel shows will probably be minimal, with the possible exception of the people that setup outdoors at the Wyndham.  They are always at the mercy of the weather, and the idea of having indoor space and not having to pack up each afternoon and set up again the next morning might be enough to lure them to the Purple Hall.  Unless the other hotel/firehall  vendors are unhappy with their venues, I don't see many of them giving up their regular spots.  I find hopping around York to the various shows kind of fun.  I wish I had been there for the golden years where the bandits were more numerous.

This move has had a small impact on me and my traveling companion in that we usually arrive in York early Wednesday mornings, and this York we will be arriving on Tuesday to check out the activities and the new Purple Hall "bandit" show.  And if we find it worthwhile, this may be our new itinerary going forward.  And I think that is part of the goal -- get people to come earlier and stay longer.  I applaud EDTCA for doing something to try and add value to the meet.

You also don't need a tax id#.

While the hotel meets may not require it of their vendors (I have no idea of their stance on the subject), it is a requirement here in the "Peoples Republic of Pennsylvania" for vendors at public flea markets to have a tax ID# and collect and remit to the state the appropriate sales taxes.  Here it is straight from the horse's mouth.

I'm sure that there is the possibility that some vendors may not be in compliance, but that will be on them if tax agents visit the venue (they have raided the bandits in the past, from what I have heard).  The EDTCA doesn't want to be involved in any state-induced headaches, so they require the public hall vendors to have the ID#.  The risk for the no-ID# vendors at the hotel meets is entirely on them, as the hotels have lots of lawyers to protect them, so they are not worried.

If I understood the TCA email announcement, the non TCA requirement seemed positive however the tax id # would likely be a deal breaker for many potential individual sellers.  As it is not the tax# per se that is the problem but the collection, reporting and remittance of the sales tax which an issue based upon the complaints and apologies I have heard from sellers over the years.

It would be nice if there was some way to have a temporary umbrella tax# issued for the event to say TCA (or the Fairground business unit) so that the individual sellers would not need a tax# and could remit the tax to TCA event folks daily, at the end of the even, or when they leave.  Not a perfect solution but it would make things easier in theory for the sellers.

I wonder if TCA has the patience to see how this plays out or if it is a one and done if the results are disappointing.
