Hello all,
As I look forward to traveling to York my wife reminded me of prior meets where a railroad with trackage near the fairgrounds was doing switching moves and she watched a bunch of guys all turn their heads toward the sound of the horn. Any idea what railroad this is? I've heard it too and the horn sounds "old", not like your typical modern loco with a K5LA. I imagine an early Geep and I'd like to actually see it once.

I'd imagine it is York Railway. They are a Genesee & Wyoming property. I believe they operate over the former Western Maryland line.

You can see the train from the window on the south end of the Blue Hall when it crosses over Market Street.
Sorry I won't be there to see it, too, this week. But I plan to be there in October.

This used to drive me crazy. For years I would be walking around the Fairgrounds and hear the occasional horn, but never was able to catch the source. Then last October I happened to be out in the parking lot behind the Blue Hall when I heard it it. This time I caught a pair of the yellow Maryland & Pennsylvania diesels pushing freight going east to west.
Great place to railfan. York has a lot of interesting spots to film. If you head over to North Pershing Ave you'll see some great street running action. Depending on if trains are in that area.
YorkRail, thanks! One of the older images shows a CF7, which is better than I hoped for. That would explain the older-sounding horn, if it's still in service.
