I was wondering and hopeful that there is a website out there that has Lionel, MTH, etc catalogs scanned that you could browse through and look for things that you previously might have missed.

Not all year's are available but the most recent years are there.
They are in pdf format so you will need Adobe acrobat, which you can download for free from Adobe.

I am working on it..

Another option for older Lionel catalogs is the series of catalogs on discs (DVD or CD ROM - can't remember which right now) that HSL put out a few years back. They are no longer in print, but may be found in some dealers' inventories or on the secondary market.
He did discs for early prewar, late prewar, postwar and modern. I think the modern covered up to around 2000 or so. Catalogs covering the time between them and where Lionel's site pick up are plentiful and can be usually had for little $$$ or even free some times.

HSL Modern era disc covers 1970 to 1995. Too bad they didn't do a later disc.
Lionel used to have 2000 to 2009 catalogs on the website, but these ones cant easily be saved as a single pdf file. Actually the 2009 catalogs are still there, they are just hidden.
i have Lionel and Flyer catalogs scanned from the late 20's up to 1960. catalogs through those times used to average 40 to 60 pages per year. today's multi-hundred page, multi-volume per year catalogs would be a project i doubt if i'd ever care to undertake.

Unfortunately, the Lionel index doesn't go back any further than 2010. As ed h mentioned above, before they changed to their current website, Lionel catalogs were available to view going back to 2000, which was extremely helpful.
actually, looks like the earlier Lionel catalogs are here, although the 2000-2008 catalogs are not really true catalog scans but more like an online version.

A very annoying version of the 2000 Volume 1 catalog is here:
(contains many slow loading pop ups)
