Here's some shots of my Christmas layout, the CEO has shown enthusiasm for this to permanently remain in operation. Red Arrow Lines dominate on this one.

Some really fine examples and good work on this thread.

Scott is that a Corgi PCC upgraded with a motor or a MTH PCC (or another brand)?

Love the Red Arrow Liberty Liners by the way! All of the former Phila. Suburban Transportation Co. lines are within 10 minutes of me.

Prr7688 - the PCC is an MTH product. I have a Brill Bullet shell that I will eventually get a power train installed. Thinking of using a williams peter Witt as a donor.

RedRockBill - You're giving me ideas now.  I need to see if the Ferrari 250 GT California Spider exists in 1:43 scale and add it to my vehicle inventory

Dallas & Mark - Thank you for your comments on the Ski Slope.

Dallas - On the video length, those are videos from my YouTube channel which I post here every now and then. I didn't know that OGR had a time limit on videos.  This one ended up being kind of long at 11 minutes, but when I was filming, it didn't seem that long.  Go figure!

As an infrequent visitor, I  hope this does not break some kind of protocol. (If it does, I am sure it can be deleted.) Stopping by the site today, I saw this thread, and it brought back memories. I just checked, and the last time I put up a Christmas Garden (that is a Maryland term, most of us call it a layout) was 2012! I could not believe it. I did put up a "train" in 2015. If no one minds, I posted a few picts of my 2012, to show what I used to do,overall done [1)overall doneoverall done [2) and one of my 2015 - you can call it anything you want. Maybe next Christmas, I will have newer pictures to put up! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! Greg

Every few years my wife, Mary, and I go crazy with our Christmas Layout.  Its a celebration of both Lionel Christmas trains, and Department 56 buildings.  This layout is an 8'x8' L with North Pole Village D56, and some LionChief trains.  FastTrack.

Hope you enjoy it!

Awesome!  Nice job on the foam carving.  Is that all foam insulation sheets, or do you also use foam blocks?

Thanks!  It is polystyrene packing foam I get from Uline.  2'x4' sheets in 1/2", 1", and 2" thickness.   I used 1/2" and 2" for most everything.  The carving is done with a hot wire foam cutter, and blue chalk powder is dry-brushed on to make the ice look.  Some of the vertical surfaces of the mountain are stacks of 2", and some are 1/2" sheet to make walls.

Greg, It doesn't matter if it is from 2020, 1920, or 2012, Looking mighty good!!

Well out younger daughter and her mother-in-law stopped by, so no one else will be seeing it this year except my wife and I.  They liked the hobo skiing, saving the hero boy observation car, a new addition.

Mark, I LOVE your layout! It should be in the main display window of a large NYC department store.
Who makes the three-story building in the back right in your second photo?

Bryce, Thank you very much!!

Do you mean this building?

I wish I knew who made it.  I have not seen any other buildings made in this way.  My wife bought all these buildings at the local St. Vincent de Paul and Goodwill thrift stores.  None of them have boxes.  Some have Department 56 or Lemax molded in the under sides, but this one has nothing.  This one is different from all the others in that it is not an empty shell with a single light bulb.  It has fiber optics glued in from this plastic inset to each window opening and the spots to look like it is decorated with Christmas lights.  It came without the piece that holds the light and was already scorched.  I broke the glue out that held the plastic insert to see how I could fix it, but just put it back in and taped the electric cord so my bulb doesn't come near the plastic.

Kevin, I also loved your enchanting Christmas display and video.  Who made the trestle on your display and where did you get it?

The trestle holding up the elevated loop looks great. Arnold

Thank you Arnold.  The trestles are MTH's Subway Trestles.  As they are designed for Real Trax and tubular track, I had to make some accommodations to incorporate my Atlas track.  At each trestle where the tracks are joined, I connected the track ties to the trestles using zip ties.  I chose black zip ties so that they would blend in and not be noticeable.

Without any support holding up the spans, and the entire structure not being very sturdy, I didn't want to risk the track joiners come apart under the weight of trains, plus my fear of trains becoming airplanes on the corners, so the only thing I've run up there is the Atlas trolley and some handcars.  I did take some photos showing the Polar Express stationary on the elevated track so I will need them to post them before Santa Claus comes at midnight tonight.

You will also see that there are railings at the outside corner sides of the elevated tracks.  My intent was to put an elevated transit style walkway along with the railings on the corners using (1) laser cut wood grade crossings at O36 radius to match the track, and (2) Plastruct railings to serve as some of barrier from flying, plus it would look great.  Ran out of time so I just put the railings up instead.

A year or two after I had begun my first job I was sitting in my one bedroom apartment thinking about the upcoming holiday season and wishing I could put up some trains.   As I was sitting there it suddenly occurred to me this was MY apartment and, since I was single, I could do anything (within reason) I wanted to!

At first I thought about putting up a tree and surrounding it with trains...then I realized a tree would just take up desirable railroad real estate so I forgot about a tree and covered the entire living room floor with a carpet central Christmas layout.  The first time I did this was 1977 - below is the 1980 version.

No at-home layout this year, just an around the tree loop.  Went crazy with an  asymmetrical design, though.

As for the office loop, I still haven't gotten around to wiring the buildings or bridge lights, though I did get the siding finished, enabling me to store a second train.  After we closed yesterday the Polar Express left the North Pole for its annual run!

Merry Christmas to all!

- Neal
