I'm cleaning out all my trains and came across the SP GP-9 from 1996 I believe it's the first TMCC Railsounds engine. I remember when this came out it was like we died and went to heaven, the sounds were unbelievable and the strobe and TMCC was so exciting. Looking at the button couplers and lack of detail made me realize how far we have come.  When you look at where we now its a great time to be in the hobby we have as much scale stuff as HO guys do now.

I'm not trying to bust your chops or anything of the sort, but if you really like realism/scale, you might want to look into 2 rail.

2 rail certainly has an edge on us to some degree but Sean is correct - THIS is the Golden Age of 3 rail O gauge for scale realism.  Even the traditional trains have come a long way with Bluetooth and wifi. When I bring a nice well-detailed scale locomotive to our club layout, the couple of toy train guys will 'humor me' but they really get excited over the latest Lionchief engines - something for all of us!
