A few months ago i bought a rusty bent and dented Lionel 216 hopper on Ebay. Today I'm finishing returning it to it's former glory. It started out as a dark green with flaked paint and rust. Today it has become a Delaware & Hudson yellow and blue hopper. After stripping and banging out dents I found that i had an old bottle of Scale coat D&H yellow which decided that this would be a D&H yellow car. High Ball Graphics decals and a custom D&H logo complete this car.
It's not clear in the picture but the under carriage and the drop doors are painted D&H blue to add a little color.. Now all I need to do is find some load inserts, if anyone has a set they'd like to sell please let me know.
The next Item I'm working on cost the huge sum of $5.00 at a train show last weekend. It's a home built ( i think) water tower. It's built with tin, brass, and copper pieces. The ladder is square cross section copper. It appears to be pretty old as the wire for the bulb on top has cloth insulation. I'm rebuilding it with a more Standard sized ladder and a water spout. I'm thinking of painting it in a New Haven Orange, White and Black paint scheme with large NH lettering on the tank sides.
