In my opinion the Lionel Corp red 400e set and the red presidential set are some of the nicest offerings. If you had a chance to grab either one, which one would you choose?

Not a std. Gauge guy but I like the 400e set.
I would buy the 400e sooooooo nice
vince
The flyer set.
400E with extra cars
I would get both
neither.
I checked the third box:, "None of the above", but..."diff'ent strokes for diff'ent folks"
Tough choice but I would say the 400. Reason being is I prefer electric but not that particular engine in the flyer set. Give me an Ives engine and it's a different story
Definitely the red President Special.

If the 400e was in O gauge I might bite. Not a standard gauge guy though.
The 400e but with the AF cars instead of Lionel! I have a set of green President's Special cars I use with various Lionel steamers, they just look fantastic. A very simple coupler adapter and it all works.
The AF set
I think that's about it. The 400 has been done in a ton of different colors, liveries, and heralds. The 4689 is either blue or chrome, that's it.
Besides, there's a neat historical twist on this: the cover of the 1928 American Flyer catalog showed the 4689 President's Special in red, but it was never produced in that color... until now!
The 400. I think it's gorgeous, and just have no particular background or attachment to electrics.
If I was a std ga guy the 400e would be coming home with me.
I like the look of the old Lionel Steamer myself. But personally, I'd get one in gunmetal gray instead of red if possible.
Neither one does much for me.
Can either be upgraded to a Marx Wind Up?
I wouldn't buy either one. I would prefer a 256 loco from Lionel with a matching set of passenger cars. Color not important.
I have the Red 400E set on order.
In red, the Flyer. In fact blue or plated president would be cool too. But the 400e if I could have it in grey would win the spot on my track.
