I was so spooked by all the people posting the issues with these, I cancelled my order for a 2nd set that I was going to use as a back up or maybe another layout in another room.

I will just use my tried and true old Legacy set, as I no longer trust these new sets.

It is getting old Lionel....

UPDATE: Well unfortunately, my new MTH LIRR MU has issues, brand new right out of the box today.

Stops after going about a track length and then makes high revving motor or gear noises, and the PS3.0 sound shuts off at that moment as well.

I call it "too fancy and made in China".

Time to go back to good old conventional and Williams if this keeps up.

The GOOD news is that Ken Bianco Jr and Trainworld took good care of me and are exchanging it.

Just checked my other remote and it did the same thing all that showed up were the numbers

but when i turned them both on couple of the icons showed up on the bottom for a minute or 2 then gone this is pretty frustrating eh  It probably just operator error   I just need someone to show me how to run these things

It almost looks like something is plugged in wrong during assembly....

That's what my first one did...the one I just ordered when they became available. The upper display writes down into the keypad area. Then if you reset the ctc it displays the numbers and messes up again when it reloads the displays. But, all the buttons did work if you remembered where they were without symbols. I sent it back to the dealer, just the CAB2, and they replaced it with another new CAB2 which works perfectly.

Well just go thru the whole process and you will see if it works or not...since the one CAB2 seems to work now.

The text in the keypad is beginning to look like a common fault issue. Not a coincidence but a common possible issue with the new CAB2s.

OMG! Another Legacy 990 lemon. This is extremely disturbing.

When I purchased my lemon, um — I mean 990, from Legacy Station, Brian Sheffield told me in an email that Lionel said all of the 990 systems were tested and would work properly.

Clearly, that is not the case. Legacy Station wouldn't even exchange my failed 990. Instead, Brian Sheffield had me go direct to Lionel.

I will say that the customer service folks at Lionel are really on the ball. They tried to double shoot the 990 problems I was experiencing over the phone, but in the end, it had to go back for repair.

For now, I am running my MTH DCS PS2 locomotives. I did run conventional on Saturday night - it was actually quite fun.

But I do want to operate Legacy and DCS command control so I am waiting until November to get my Legacy 990 back from Lionel (hopefully, it will be 100 percent operational). In the meantime, MTH has control over my Fastrack.

I had the same issue with the newest CAB2, reset it,reloaded it, nothing helped. It is a hardware issue, poor connection, bad or iffy chip, whatever. It had to be sent back for another new one which works perfectly.

Why do you think November?  I was told 3 week turnaround.  I hope I don't have to wait until November.

My Legacy 990 set as well as my MTH DCS set are both older stock, i.e. original or older revisions.

In fact, I do not believe I ever upgraded either brand, except the Legacy 990 when I purchased it from a forum member who gave me the upgrade modules.

Since I first got back into this hobby back in 2000, I am always afraid to upgrade.

I wanted a 2nd Legacy 990 set as a back up or for a 2nd trainroom, but will wait till this all sorts out.

I would highly suggest to stick with OGR forum sponsors in buying Legacy sets from now until forever, because if you buy it from say EvilBay, your recourse will be limited if you get stuck with a lemon..and thats where lemons of

all types usually end up.

Thank you Alan!

Yes, but, in my opinion, you are just like a broken record, .i.e. over, and over, and over with the same negativisms, which add NOTHING to the overall discussion.

Perhaps it's not that people take offense because god knows none of the manufacturer's are perfect, but you seem to take every opportunity in every thread to beat the drum.  You really don't add anything new to the discussion or suggest a fix or helpful hint.  One could almost open any Legacy 990 problem thread know what you have posted before we read it.

Most folks who have an issue report it and discuss and move on.  You seem to have a difficult time moving on.  That being said, it is a discussion forum so it would be up to Rich and the OGR staff to determine if the beat goes on.

Andrew all I am saying is that we get that you have had an issue, it has been noted over and over again.  It's time to move on.  If you have anything new to add by all means let us know but up until now it's been the same same.

Rich has made it clear to Andrew in another thread that too many of his posts are the same negative "attack".  We have gotten his point and now it is time to move on.  Take it up with Lionel Andrew and keep knocking at their door until you get something resolved.  Lionel will do the right thing...you just haven't gotten to the right person yet....

I had one like that and it was not operator error. I had it replaced and the new one is fine. Lionel is probably not a stranger to this problem.
