We had no problems going to Whitefish other that the bus trip from Boston to Albany, but we did have problems from Grand Jctn to Chicago & to Boston. The Lakeshore was 6 hours late into Boston. Got there at 2 in the morning. Got home at 4 am. The boxed meals were terrible. I have already called Amtrak about it.

Glad you're home safe and hope you had a good time with the grands. Did you get through Glacier or were just a few days early?
Dave, We were a little disappointed with glacier. The sun rd was only open 17 miles on the west side and 13 miles on the east side. The day we got home I got an email that it is now fully open. Oh well. i think that the best thing was the Bear tooth hwy to Yellowstone. went up 12,000 ft. 12 feet of snow at the top, and people were skiing. Also the chipmonks at the top were eating out of your hand. We loved Jackson Hole & Grand Jctn.
We also loved the Beartooth Highway and plan to go back one of these years. I'd love to go when there's snow, so maybe we'll add it to a trip to Moab and visit Zion again on the way back. We only did a short visit to Jackson Hole for lunch and want to go back there too.
Sorry you were disappointed with Glacier, but timing is everything at times, you just missed the opening of the road. And 6 hours late into Boston sure wasn't a good way to end a vacation. I hope you'll let us know what Amtrak says, if anything.
Where to next year?
Don't feel discriminated against..l have found Going to the Sun Hwy. closed in two trips out there.....one during aspen time in the fall, when snow should have melted....
. I have already called Amtrak about it.
Like, they care ?

Maybe that is all part of the plan by the current management at Amtrak to eliminate long distance passenger trains.

Hi,
Sorry that you had a bad experience at the end of your trip.
Several years ago my Wife and her mother took Amtrak from Baltimore to Seattle and experienced a large delay because of a blizzard which resulted in a missed connection from Chicago to Baltimore. They were then put on the Capitol Limited to Baltimore arriving, I believe, eight hours late. She wrote a letter to Amtrak detailing the experience. The letter was not mean spirited nor did it express anger. Amtrak responded in several days and refunded my wife a large portion of the total fare. Excellent customer experience.
hope you receive the same response from Amtrak.
Sonny
