New to the board and forum, hope I am posting in the right place.  Just picked up the a K-line Hudson Dreyfuss (blue stripe).  Saw a few other posts regarding this loco.  A few quick questions. I am running conventional right now, is there a particular speaker upgrade that will sound better than stock? Are the Electric RR railsounds boards plug and play on this loco? What brand passenger cars would look the best if I cannot find a K-line set? Christmas board getting ready to go up!! Comes down in March.  Anyone had a JDL(?) conversion (whistle effect, steam chest) on this loco? Thanks much.

These K-line sub-scale Hudsons (and Pacific and Mikados) are really quite nice. I own

a couple of the Pacifics, and they have nice gearing. I installed ERR DC Commander

in mine, and did not feel that a Cruise Commander was required - but I have no grades.

Anyway, contact Modern Toy Train Parts with your ERR questions - he carries a line

of their boards. "Plug and play"? I do not know - but Bill at MTTP probably will.

As to passenger cars, I don't recall all of the sub-scale NYC cars offered, but looking

at daBay, the Lionel and MTH catalogues for Traditional/RailKing sized sets and cars

will get you some info. Definitely stay away from long, scale-size cars. The higher-end

RK cars are very nice. I'm technically a "scale-leaning" type, but these nicer/larger RK cars

have found their way into my house before.

Lionel's PW aluminum re-issues and their imitators (Williams) can be nice, but are actually near-scale in their cross-section, if not their length.

Don't forget the plastic 027 lionel and Williams cars (streamliners); they have come in NYC and look pretty nice with a smaller loco.
