Hello, all. Guess you could say I joined the "Scale Modeler's Club" with my recent purchase of K-Line's J1e Hudson #5343. I think this is an excellent engine to consider for those who want to start collecting scale models (like myself). The level of detail on this engine is excellent; I especially appreciate the legible builder's plates. Price wasn't too bad either.

This engine brought with it some questions, though. Everyone pretty much knows the history of the iconic #5344 - but what about sister #5343? Anything of note happen with the prototype engine during its career on the Central?

5343 did not have the stoic career that 5344 had,…..5344 underwent so many changes in her career, she was more a Super J3 Hudson by the end of her life. Although 5344 & 5343 were literally sisters, 5344 got the first streamlining in the U.S.A. From there out, she was the most poked at, prodded at, and tested on Hudson for advancements inside the oval. 5343 as Pete mentioned above, stayed the same pretty much through her career, working lines east, including trips out of Harmon, & found often in Weehawken NJ,…….interesting to note, 5343 & 5344 were the last J1e’s out of Schenectady, both had all roller bearings except side rods & trailing truck.
