I recently purchased a K-Line Scale Hudson with TMCC.  I am using a Cab-1 with a TPC 400 through a TIU with all channels set to fixed.  The loco will run in conventional ( with the command base disconnected from the outer rail) and all normal functions such as whistle, bell, directional control, boost, brake and all lighting functioning normally.  The smoke unit will not work in conventional. After reconnecting the command base to the outer rails, I tried to run in command control, but loco took off and I had to use emergency stop.  I ordered a new R2LC CO8 board from Lionel and installed it but it made no difference.  After reinstalling the original R2LC board, I replaced the DCDR driver board with a known good board from a K-Line Mikado which I upgraded with ERR Cruise Commander M.  The loco still wants to run away in command mode.  I removed the mother board and buzzed out all the pins to check continuity.  Every thing seemed good except for 2 pins which had no connections.  Pin 15 and Pin 21.  According to a post on this forum by Jim Battaglia in January, 2008, he listed a pinout of Lionels R2LC board.  Pin 15 is only used in a early -4 version, but Pin 21 is listed as " Master Clear to microprocessor".  I have checked the continuity of all cable assemblies in the loco and the jumper to the tender, only to the points where the cable terminates in the tender.

I have occationally got the loco to perform partially in command mode and smoke, rear coupler, whistle, bell will work momentarily, but then quit.  I have run out of ideas and hope some of you have some ideas.

The handrails on each side of the loco are the antennas and I checked to see if they were shorted to ground and continuity between the connector on the motherboard and the antennas.  I have tested the loco with the shell reinstalled, then with the shell off using a jumper with a alligator clip attached to the wire from the motherboard antenna lead as a antenna, and then finally I tested the loco with the wheels about 1/8 inch above the track powered from the track with two jumpers and using the antennas in the loco shell attached by a jumper. There was no difference with all three configurations.

First question.... Do other TMCC engines work OK with your Setup?  If so it's the engine. If not, It's your setup.

Simplify. Get that TIU out of the equasion.  Or setup up a test track and hook up your Command Base to your TPC 400 and connect your power supply to the TPC400 and conect to your test track.

I also have a K-Line Hudson and it has been bullet proof.

Thanks for the feedback.  I removed the TIU and ran a K-Line Mikado and a Lionel PA-1 in command mode and they worked fine.  I reconnected the MTH TIU and they still ran fine so the problem is in the K-Line Hudson loco.  I have not installed a ERR Cruise Commander M in this loco.  I had a DCDR board left over from the Mikdado when I installed cruise in it.  I tested the Hudson again and it immediately goes full speed forward.

Success at last!  I replaced theDCDR board and now the Hudson runs the way it should.  Evidently both the R2LC & DCDR boards were defective.  If the new R2LC board from Lion el had been good I would not have had to go though all this, but it was a good learning experience.  I will contact Lionel and see what they will do about the defective board.  Thanks a lot for all you help and input.
