in a search, I see these smoking so well. I’m running mine in conventional at about 12-14 volts and I only see a faint whisper - if even that.  This is for both the hammerhead and the spirit of ‘76 that I have out now. Is the lack of performance because of the conventional operation?  If not is there something I can do?  I hear the fans so I know the smoke is running.

The K-Line RS-3 has a conventional 27 ohm resistor, and at 12 volts conventional it should be smoking pretty well.  I have a pair of them, and they smoke like a champ in command mode.  However, in command mode they get half-wave track power, in conventional mode they get full-wave track power, so they should be working just fine.

It's likely they need some TLC, smoke is probably the most maintenance intensive part of most locomotives.
