Gentle O Gauge Forum Members, I want to take this opportunity to introduce you to a new Collectible Lionel Car being produced by the Monsignor Sherman Council of the Knights of Columbus.  This Council hails from Glendale, New York, home of the New York and Atlantic Railroad – that handles all freight service on Long Island.  Notably, Joshua Lionel Cohen is buried in Union Field Cemetery, Glendale, about two miles from the Council’s office.

This Lionel SKU 6-58031, first in a series, Made in America boxcar is available only to those people who pre-order the car from the Council’s webpage at http://www.glendaleknights.org/   Regardless of the published date on the website, the Council will accept orders through Friday, August 17, 2018.  The Council anticipates the boxcars being ready for Christmas 2018 . . . . . . . . just in time to run under your tree.

Thank you for your comments and your interest Gentle Forum Members.

Joshua Lionel Cohen's legacy in New York City, his company's tradition of trains in the Christmas Putz and under the tree, and his nearby burial site have not been lost to the members of the Glendale Council.  Many of the older members continue to enjoy their Lionel trains, pre-war and post-war models, around their tree at Christmas time.  My personal friend, Frank Kotnik, who chairs their Collectible Car Committee, has had a 16' x 4' O Gauge layout for many years and is planning a modular layout to share with the members at the Council.  Lionel trains play a big part in all of this.

2005 Santa arrives

Already thinking of the many happy people who will come to see our trains run between Thanksgiving and the New Year 2019!

Best to all,
Don

Thanks Don!  I was "revisiting" some of my recent magazines, and had folded over the corner of the page with the announcement of this box car.  You made ordering a breeze, and this will be an excellent gift for Christmas for my "Train Buddy" son and his boys - and their layout!  So glad that the ordering date has been extended.  Also, looking forward that upcoming pancake breakfast near us...
