Hi Dale,

Thanks for the note.

We have made several improvements to the kits since we re started the business.

One of the major areas of improvement was to re formulate the "plastic" this was to both get a "non stinky" and dimensional stability to the material, and second to offer it in the base brick color   Over time the panels were being painted with a brick paint , and that filled up the details a bit and reduced the impact of some of the brick work.  This change in the material, and some additional care in packaging seems to resolve much of the issues people have run in to in the past.

The other major effort we have been engaged in is creating new instructions for the kits as we either make new ones, or re manufacture the existing ones.  These new instructions include detailed steps, color photos, and drawing to assist the builder. In many cases we have included optional steps one can do to add additional detail to a kit, many of these tips have come from some of the great craftsman here on the forum.

We have posted the instructions on our web site for free down load as well.

We will look into the suggestion of a video.... we will have to figure out who is in it as I have  " A Face for Radio" as we used to say when I worked at the radio station :-)

The tower kit looks great. 7 color bands and lighting exactly right per FAA regs. But from the example pics, it looks like the example may be painted red and white. The real colors required by the FAA are a particular shade of international orange and white. I had a real life problem with this at a station I managed when new tower sections were delivered pre-painted red/white and we had to repaint the tower after it was up. (And there is another option for those who might want to be different - unpainted steel with white strobes.)

I think I'm going to be finding a spot for one of these.

John

The Korber detail items are very nice and reasonably priced and very easy to build. I picked up the roof top water barrel, the air conditioner and fire escape at York. very nice quick add on pieces.

When building a Korber model I used a hair dryer on high to dry some paint.  Heat does soften the walls temporarily. I was thinking this could be an advantage if someone was bashing pieces and needed a slight change to original shape.

Thanks guys for the suggestions,

Thanks Dale, will look into the video, I had been thinking about that, just a bit of time.  BTW based on what I have seen of your work on your layout and your electronics skills, I think you are underestimating yourself, you have some great work there!

John, you are indeed correct about the color, for ease of modeling I used red as it is more readily available at most hardware stores

John, we are looking at HO, however this kit can be built with one less section at the top, so you can make it shorter in the background if you like.

We will look at the factory  unsure of licensing issues, and we have the masters and tooling.

Hi Kerrigan.

I would look over the new instructions and templates posted on the web site

http://www.korbermodels.com/Services___Links.html

The plastic material has changed, and over time some of the wood sizing changed a bit, and we have added new laser cut windows and doors.  However the basic wall sections are the same dimensions.

We offer the new windows and doors on our site as an upgrade to older kits.  you may find these interesting.

Hi Rich,

Thank you for looking into reissuing the Lionel factory. I suspect that Lionel might need to license the inclusion of the "LIONEL" sign, but the building itself should be in the public domain as Lionel no longer owns the building in Irvington, NJ.

It is a handsome structure that even absent the LIONEL sign would have broad appeal to many modelers.

Regards,

I would like to see a short video of building specific Korber kits on your web site. At my level of building skills a video would make it more likely that I would purchase your larger kits.  I am a bit nervous to order something that is beyond my building skill level.

Just a quick run through of the parts and key build stages would work for me. Just my thoughts...can't wait, my radio tower, oil tank and AC roof unit I ordered should be here by weeks end. Rich, great shipping price you offer. Thank you.

Thanks Rich; I'll look at the upgrades.
Kyrian reminds me the kit is more like 20 years old as are the add-on stalls, so I'm sure it will benefit from upgrading!

I sincerely hope you will re-issue the Lionel factory,as you have seen here, there is PLENTY of interest in it.And as one of the guys put it,it would be a great building without the Lionel signage, anyone who really wanted to have that could customize it to include the signage! Here's to hoping you hear our requests to make some money on tooling that exsists and put out 'The Factory"!!!!
