Hello. A friend gave me a Kusan Army train to go over, I rewired the loco, and became acquainted with 2 rail DC current. I can't run it at home, but at our club layout I might be able to, since we have Gargraves track with wooden ties. Does anyone have a parts source, I need whatever goes on top of the loco, looks like a machine gun mount. (That would take care of the HO crowd!) Any ideas as to value of the Army set? It is fairly complete, but shows some play wear, no broken pieces or anything like that. I would like to offer a trade to the owner, since he wants to build a three rail layout, and this won't work. Thanks in advance.

Since email addresses are hidden for the time being, contact me off-forum through my website below for an Atomic engine gun turret.
Check recently completed eBay auctions for an idea of the value of an Atomic Train set.

Thanks very much. I won't be replacing the gun turret unless I am able to talk the owner into a trade for three rail. Appreciate it.
Sorry to rain on your parade, but if you try to run it a layout that uses Gargraves, be aware that just because the track has wooden ties, does NOT mean that you can apply + and - DC to it and get your train going. If the club has done their layout the right way, there will be outside rail jumpers that tie the two running rails together. In addition, there may be places on their track where they have installed insulated outside rail signaling circuits. Probably best to buy some two-rail GG track and make a test loop.
Thanks Art, if I am lucky enough to trade for the set, that is what I will do. Would like to see this oldie run!
Another option is to replace the chassis with one from a K-Line Alco. The screw holes line up perfectly, then you can run on 3 rail track. The front coupler area is the only issue to the swap. Myself, I remove the front K-Line coupler so I do not alter the Kusan shell. You could open the coupler area if you choose to keep a front coupler. For the missing gun turret, I made one from the clear plastic container out of one of those gum machine dispensers.
Start watching this video at about the 5 minute mark and you will see a number of Kusan/Williams loco's running 3 rail.
