Latest update from Sunset/3rdRail/GGD in my email this morning is that Scott is finally offering the NP North Coast Limited in an 8-car set, with additional domes (coach & sleeper) and coaches for separate sale.  I am very happy to finally see it!

Please join me in lobbying for the additional offering of an NP Traveller’s  Rest Lounge car. The lack of this car is the most apparent deficiency of this set.  A non-dome sleeper (8/6/4 or 8/6/3/1) would be welcome, too. The remaining cars, with additional domes, make a very credible "4 Domes West" NCL.

If you would like Scott to offer F9's, let him know that, too!

Do you have a picture of the car for those of us not familiar with the car requested?

Great news! I'd really like to see Stampede Pass made available as an extra car.DSCN1170Screen Shot 2018-10-14 at 1.53.50 PM

Except that's not how it appeared on the NCL.  It's tourist service paint is barely a suggestion of the Raymond Lowery designed scheme.  It ran in full two tone green on the NCL unnamed (as were all NP domes) as CB&Q 558.  The company that currently owns the car is obviously looking to save on maintenance costs by having it mostly unpainted stainless steel.

Mark, lots of pictures and info available via Google, just search “Northern Pacific Traveller’s Rest”. Also the photo collections at NPRHA.org

Several of these are preserved, including one owned by Friends of SP4449. The NP car in recent consists of 4449 excursions (e.g. Bend, OR 2017) is the 4449 crew lounge and is a Traveller’s Rest car.  (Perhaps this fact may generate additional interest in it...)

Oh wow. Thanks for the info. Not being familiar with the the specifics of the reason I just assumed it was mostly stainless due to its CB&Q ownership.

As a side note they also often Homestake Pass which is in full paint. Stampede Pass also has the most beautiful interior I've seen on a car.

Regarding the Travellers Rest, the reply that I got from Scott Mann back on October 13 was, "I'll consider it. It's early in the process."  He needs to keep hearing from us, thank you for supporting this car!

With respect to matching engines, 3rd Rail is offering NP F3's right now. I think he did offer NP F7's in the last run of those....   F3's, F7's and F9's are all correct for the NCL. (FP7's are not, except for a brief period in 1962.)   I have indicated my interest to Scott for F9's, at the same time I requested the Travellers Rest.

Nice, but unfortunately not much good to me without matching engines to go with the cars.

MTH did a set of A-B-A F7s ... saw a set at York and came back for them... of coarse they were gone...I am looking for them too...

Image result for MTH northern pacific A-B-A

Trouble is, using another manufacturer's engines, there's a 99% chance the color tones won't be a match, and having engines and the cars with different shades of paint looks awful.

I sent Scott this link on the Traveller's Rest cars, and it includes a further link to a 12 page brochure that NP prepared to promote these cars.

My view is that if NP marketed the Traveller's Rest cars so heavily to the public, in addition to the domes of course, to promote the NCL, the car should be included in the standard NCL consist.

EDIT:  Went back and reserved a set with special request that the TR car be included in the standard 8 car set.
