Ok here’s the new layout footprint.
I included my template for the roundhouse,
I’m thinking of all switching operations on the lower tier table. There is room inside the workbench area on my table for a 4-5 track switch yard, and a few sidings scattered around the lower tier for industry. I don’t have much thought in the lower layout yet, it all hinges on the roundhouse.
The new wall will be open below the header to the floor that will allow access below for the table and storage.
I’m thinking building the second tier as a double main dog bone with 072 cross over switches and a couple of sidings. This tier does not come into the workspace area. Not a busy plan as to allow for a town and homes with roadwork.
The 3rd tier is a double main loop for the passenger train line with one storage track on the shelf in the work area. This main will also have cross over switches. I would like to incorporate a grade track to all 3 levels if possible, but not necessary for the 3rd tier.
I’m also trying to work in all radii to be a minimum of 48” maximum of 72”
Scenery and streets with buildings is essential. So I’m not sure if I can afford the space for the roundhouse. I don’t have any real steam engines to speak of at this time though I would like a couple in the future. I will also need a few pop up openings to access the areas I can’t reach from the outside of the layout.
One of the photos are ideas Im working with. I have seen some great responses in the past on this forum and would value a different perspective. I’d like a balance between operations and running. I am modeling the layout, not track plan with the LIRR in mind during the ‘70’s.
