Layouts (public or private) to see in central NJ?

The Info Age Science Museum is really close to you in Wall Township on Marconi Rd.

 

Too bad, it's only open on weekends.

 

You could get a look at an Eagle Scout layout restoration project that I am working on with the Scout. Delays in the room preparation in the museum have held us up from transferring the layout to the museum central building where it will be displayed.

The museum is a really interesting place. It is where Marconi invented the trans-Atlantic wireless and had his receiving station. Many other scientific firsts were developed there, also.

If you have time to get up to Patterson I highly recommend reaching out to the NJ Hi-Railers. Nothing like it in the world and they have posted open invites to fellow forumites to reach out if they are in the area.

If visiting Paterson (please note the one "t". Lou Costello would roll in his grave!) to see the NJ Hi-Railers layout you should also stop by the Paterson Museum. It not only has a nice smaller scale layout ( I forget if it's N or HO) but is housed in one of the remaining buildings of the Rogers Locomotive Works. In fact, while there, you can visit the nearby Cianci Park and see a life-sized statue of Lou!

Thanks for all the great ideas! I'm only here through Friday morning so I won't be able to do any of the suggested weekend activities. However, I did get a kind reply from an OGR member who is also a member of the NJ Hi-Railers who is generously trying to see what might be possible. Again, my thanks for all the suggestions!  :-)

I'm a big Abbot and Costello fan and I have always wanted to see that statue of Lou but I have a good friend who lives in Fair Lawn which the town next to Paterson and he told me that the park is not in a good neighborhood.

 

Glad you were to get the visits in during your trip. Good train folks all around.

The trip to see the NJ Hi-Railers is going to have to wait as the club had power problems on Wednesday so nothing was running. Unsure as to when I'll be back in NJ but I look forward to that "bucket list" destination!

 

In the Lakehurst area, somebody emailed me a great tip to visit the Lakehurst Heritage Center right near the Hindenburg crash site. Well worth it!
