Hi,

Just received The Lion Roars. I eagerly turned to the page to order several of the 45th Anniversary Convention Car. The car is a Providence & Worcester Flat w/ two trailers. I worked for the P&W and consider them my "home railroad".

I read the fine print only to discover the following: "One Car Per Member".

I won't get into my thought process that the more cars a club sells the better the balance statement , I'll only ask.....

Are there any LCCA members who are NOT going to be ordering this car? If that is the case I'd like to ask your help to order one for my railroad. I need at least four. My email is Railrunnin@gmail.com if you can help.

Thank you.

Paul

Paul,

If I am not mistaken, you also need to pay the $70 for convention registration to purchase this car. The regular convention car is the P&W flat with matching tractors

for $131.

I agree with you on the "one per". I will make no secret, I would like to offset my purchase just a bit by purchasing an extra to sell.

Paul,

I'm not sure why there is a limit of 1 car per member either.   I think part of the issue is these are not BTO, but rather the LCCA has already set their order quantity with Lionel.  So they want to spread the opportunity across the membership as much as possible.  If they misjudge and there are extras available, then sometimes you'll see LCCA cars offered at other venues like York or shows where the LCCA has booth space such as WGHOT.

One of those LCCA convention flatcars can be ordered online -- the one with 2 tractors, while the other (with trailers) requires attendance at the convention.  I also recall reading that the trailers for the onsite convention car need to be picked up separately from the car itself.  Something about Lionel distributing the trailer(s) when attending a seminar/meeting at the convention or something to that effect.

These "convention cars" do show up from time to time on the after-market... either on eBay or through a couple of other well-known sources of "collectable" cars.  But of course, you're at the mercy of after-market pricing at that point too.

Best of luck!

If I remember right, there was a car at last year's convention that was one per member too. But at the last day (or two?) they took away the limit. I bought one of those cars for another member while it was still one per. Another place to look is the trading hall. I saw quite a few of those South Shore trolleys for sale at last year's hall.

I can't help you with this one though, as I am not going to be able to make this convention.

Good luck,

J White

Thank you all for the informative replies.

Seems I should have done more research before my post. From various input received, the convention car for various groups is usually limited to convention attendees.

I have my "panties in a wad" over this for purely selfish reasons (for my own RR.)

Thanks again for the input and offers to help, greatly appreciated.

No need to apologize, Paul.  If I'm not mistaken, this is the first of the Lionel PS-4 scale flatcars w/trailers that has a few strings attached to it.  Up until now, these cars w/trailers have been straightforward to just purchase as singles and two pack ala carte offerings.

But it was bound to happen sooner or later.  Usually when folks want to collect an entire series of cars, there are always a few tough ones to come by -- usually 'cause they're part of a limited production set.  In this case, the LCCA car is tied to the convention and then the trailers that go with it are being distributed at an event within the convention.

Looking to hear any insight Al K. or Sal G. can provide.

Paul,

I missed seeing you had to buy a convention ticket to get the car the first time I read the documentation.  Then I re read and saw that was the case.  I'm not going to the convention, but That is a sharp car.

Al sure is a great guy!

Gramps, I think Paul was really inquiring if there might be ways to purchase "extra" convention cars.  Last year, it was reported that attendees could purchase extras on the final day of the convention -- presumably because there were extras available to sell.  I guess it all depends...  that's why it'll be interesting to hear if Al K. or Sal G. can shed some light on that possibility.  May be too early to call though.
