Okay, I thought that MTH was sending back my 256 from repairs but no......it was my Prospector set with the PS 3.0. Looks great and my luck, of course, just ask Steve if you do not believe me, it arrived broken with a pickup roller and pin having come off. I was able to repair it and it runs great. I just wish it would have had a smoke unit but now that I have looked at it I can see where it would not fit. The PS 3.0 stuff is in the drive unit behind the motor and the speaker is located at the rear of the back shell blocking the light from coming in. Nice set and runs well after some time on my layout. Please enjoy the video since it was a quick job with my cell phone....I forgot to charge up the video camera.

Me too.

Terry thanks for the pictures and CaptainCog/Jeff thanks for the video.

Fabulous looking paint.  I wonder if they used another GM/Cadillac custom paint color like they did on the previous Lake Shore set that I was told used a GM Cadillac Eldorado paint.  From the video posted, the orange metallic color (reminds me of either a Cadillac or Olds Toronado color from the early '70's) looks better than the prototype that was at York.

Looking how the drive unit is attached to the shell I can see where it would be very difficult to put smoke in there....not impossible and if I ever find another similar set I might try to put a smoke unit in one. It would have to be routed to the exhaust stacks using hoses and then mounted in the back area of the shell.

Glory be!

My Traditional Prospector set arrived today. Externally, it looks gorgeous just like the contemporary issue (shown above), but it is fitted with a smooth running three pole open frame motor, a traditional e-unit, and a lovely sounding air whistle! The set turned out to be just as I had hoped for.

Thanks to the LCCA, Lou, and Al, and to Lionel Corp.-MTH.

There are a number of the scale Zephyrs on e-bay so I assume some of the store have them also. The catalog says they smoke. I would like to see one operating with smoke. Looked at a few on youtube and did not see smoke from any of them.

Here is a link to a TMCC Lionel Pioneer Zephyr with smoke.
