Had a phone message from Legacy Station when I got home.  My Pere Marquette 1225 is in.  I'll pick it up Saturday.  There is a train show here in Atlanta this weekend as well.  Looks like the wallet is going to be a little thinner by Monday.  At least now I can take the Challenger off of Polar Express passenger service and put it back hauling coal like is is supposed to.  Can't wait to see the neighborhood kids reaction to the Polar Express when we have our open house.

Wow, I ordered mine from ABC HOBBYCRAFT, Evansville, Indiana. I hope I get a Call Soon. I liked the first Legacy 765, which was in OGR, THE VIDEO #10, which was on my layout, "LEAPIN Larrys Looney Lines RR....I sold it, yo buy this one with Rich Melvin's new Dialogs, and also Steam/Whistle Effect....Thats What I'm Talkin About! Good Times are Around The Corner...Happy Railroading.

Yes TRK, the 765 has the right whistle sound, as does the 1225 version.

Great! I was hoping you would resond! Much appreciated!

Eric Trains posted this picture on FB last night.  I watched him run it for a little bit on his webcam.  I wonder if the crewtalk is engine cab# specific?  I heard Rich on the shutdown crewtalk of the engine, but there was not a cab no mentioned as you heard with previous engines that used cab# with the crewtalk.

From the looks of the photo it appears the engine is missing lubricator linkage and has over sized lettering on the tender. Whats the deal Lionel I thought this was your "Cadillac" line...

engine numbers are only mentioned on vision line engines, as of a few years ago.

so with rich re-doing his talk it is probably not in the 765 this time.

To be fair, the previous renditions Lionel did of the 765 and the other Berks didn't have the linkage either.

Is it me.....or is the grey part of the two tone paint scheme too light/grey?

Someone mentioned this above but does the lettering on the tender look bigger than what was used on the 2003 TMCC model of the #779 (38050)?

I was hoping that this would look close to the way the 765 appears today.  At first glance, this looks a lot like the MTH PS-1 765 that I sold over the summer.

Hmmmmm...........

My 38050/779 is much more black than grey in the respective areas, as is the first Legacy version of the 765.  The catalog picture of this model is almost all black.  The real 765 has been predominantly black the past few times she has been in Ohio......so I'm a little concerned/bummed out at the moment.

Considering the graphite color in real life is a mixture of linseed oil and graphite wiped on the smokebox, the color always varied between batches of the mix so there is no exact graphite color.

Do a google search for NKP 765 and you'll see many different colors on the smokebox in different shots.  There is no one exact color as each batch is different.  It also tends to lighten up in color as the finish bakes on to the hot metal.

You are correct about the black color though.  On the 1897 Baldwin 4-4-0 I work on, we use a mixture of bone black and linseed oil which gives it a black color.  Not sure if FWRHS uses that mixture on 765 though, but there are definitely photos of it with a black smokebox.

On the other hand, some locomotives like Pere Marquette 1225 had their smokeboxes insulated and jacketed like the rest of the boiler, so that would obviously make it the color of the rest of the locomotive.  765 is not that way however.

Man I hope the pere marquette 1225 is just like the picture shown in the catalog.

Unpacked and fired up my new Legacy PM 1225 today. Fit and finish, sounds, QC, and Legacy operations are all fabulous. The whistle steam is at a moderated (correctly so) intensity relative to the stack smoke. One need only load fluid down the stack to supply the whistle steam feature, as well. The cosmetics are well nigh identical but with a slightly superior casting crispness in places compared to my sample from a dozen years ago. The new tender now fitted with a 'real' coal load. The smoke box front is done in a dark graphite that matches the one on my older TMCC/RS version.

I believe that most all of you are going to love these.

Is it two tone grey (see above pic eric trains) or mostly black like the picture in the catalog ? Just to be clear.  It sounds like it when you mentioned just the face.

Only the front of the boiler (face) is a dark graphite on the PM Berk in a fashion similar to what is illustrated in the catalog and on the two previous runs of the scale PM 1225. The entire length of the boiler casting including the forward smoke box area is painted engine black. It is not like the 765 NPK Berk pictured above.

Hope this clarifies.

The UPS man just brought mine. The engine is beautiful. The only thing I don't care for is that the whistle steam and the main stack share the same fill hole. It seems that sometimes when first starting if you blow the whistle the chuff will also chuff through the whistle hole. The sounds on this engine are outstanding.
