Legacy cab1 or cab2?

It should have recognized that it was a legacy engine.  Press the INFO button then the SCROLL button to control and select LEG scroll to sound and make sure that is LRS.  Press INFO to exit.  Power up the engine and you should be good  to go.

Seriously, are you kidding? DCS is not simple, or intuitive, compared with Legacy.

Sorry, I missed the point - as per Ricko’s post below, there’s no READ function as with DCS, you have to enter the engine manually although it’s not a long process.

Which engine have you got? The instructions/manual that came with it should contain a few short pages to describe how to set it up. If you’ve got a Legacy system, you have a CAB2. “CAB1” will appear on the remote screen by default if the engine has not been entered in the system as per the previous post. It will still run but the Legacy features will not appear on the keypad as they should.

Nothing is "recognized" by  the remote. The information needs to be entered.

First off, you need to program the loco with an i.d.#:

Next enter the engine info,** GO TO 1:20 on this video**( disregard the LCS programming at the beginning)

In all fairness. IMO, the Legacy manual can be a bit overwhelming and intimidating. When in reality programming the remote is pretty basic stuff.

Thanks everyone for your responses, they where very helpful. One last question, once you have more than one engine entered into your remote can you pull up a list of them and scroll through what you have?  Thanks again for your help!

It always depends on the vintage of your legacy engine too.  Older ones had orange modules with them you can plug into the remote to upload all the engine info.  Newer ones have an IR sensor and if you have the Lionel sensor track setup in your system, with automatically load all the info when it runs over the track.   The old standby way is to enter it manually.

I found when I was first learning Legacy, the easiest way was to have an engine, the manual, and remote and walk through the manual and do each thing in real time on the remote and watch the engine so I understood it better.

Also, there is a complete section under this forum just for control systems that has a lot of info.

It is easy once you learn it, but its totally different from DCS, so you have to wipe that from your mind.

You can scroll through engine list but I prefer to just directly enter engine #.  I always use 2 numbers off the engines actual road number to make it easy.

Scrolling through engine number is in the manual and pretty easy, but you need more than one engine in there to see it.
