Can't speak for the newest batch of GP-9's but if they're anything like the legacy GP-7's they'll be hard to beat.
Our UP GP-7 is very smooth, great detail, good lighting package, great sounds and smoke.
I specifically bought the GP9 to run with my Legacy GP7. They make a great MU set. I like the subtle detail differences so they aren't identical locos.
The new GP9 runs as well as the GP7.
It's a great loco, but, the fit and finish on the GP7 was a bit better.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with both.

Dave,
The C&O version found it's way to me. Sounds and operation are great. I enjoyed my Polar RR Legacy GP7 so much that I wanted the C&O GP9 to run the rest of the year. I'm very happy with it. When mine arrived, I shot of video of it while it was on my test stand.
Here is that video...
How much will 1 engine pull??
How many drive wheels does it have.
They do look very well detailed
Keith,
I saw that video on you tube, very informative. I'm more into modern locomotives but the SF gp9's looked so good.

I saw in a recent Lionel demonstration video for one of the latest batch of Legacy GP9s (NP# 202) that it has a blinking strobe light on top of the cab. Anyone know if all the various road versions from this latest batch of GP9s all have this strobe light? The Lionel catalog description does not mention a strobe light at all. Thanks
I had the Erie version. It was a looker and strong puller. I wound up having an issue with it that Lionel couldn't fix, so they gave me a refund. But the engine was really nice. I am thinking of getting a new one real soon.
kj356: All 8 wheels are powered, traction tires on 4. I've pulled 25 cars on level track without issue. It's a strong puller.
TRK: My GN version does not have a strobe.
